This device was used in a medical office that sees around 2000 patients per year. Every month, 3000 pages of faxes are sent out (more on this later). We tried to go digital as much as possible because we were a new practice. br>br>As a result, we began by experimenting with fax machines that used client software to export faxes from the machine to a file server (in this case, a Brother pc-based server). fax rx). The issue with this was that the client was unstable and would frequently crash, so we decided to move on after enduring this for a few years (and writing a script to restart the program when it crashed). br>br>Now it's time to move on to the next task. Online fax services are the worst choice for a (apparently) high-volume fax operation. Company V attempted to sell us an unlimited plan. Great! Please add us to the list! Unfortunately, the salesperson failed to mention that "unlimited" refers to less than 500 faxes per month in the fine print. Please refer to the fax number I provided earlier. Simply have their customer service representative remote into your computer to set up the IP address for you. I'm not sure why DHCP isn't the default, but it is what it is. I'll say it again: save yourself the trouble and have their representative remote in and configure it for you. If you're too proud to ask for help, consider it part of the setup process. Their representative was extremely pleasant and accommodating in every way ten out of ten. Just go ahead and do it. (I used Skype chat, and remote in was done with TeamViewer)br>br>Once it was connected to the network, I was given instructions on how to send faxes to email and export faxes to the server (as PDF). I chose to send faxes to our file server, with the option to send to email if the file server was unavailable (a nice feature). I should mention that there is a client side app, but it isn't necessary to run it once the fax server is pointed to your file server (unless the computer you're running the client on is also your file server). It would have been fantastic if it could directly integrate with online storage options, but that does not appear to be an option at this time, though I haven't looked into it. It's currently set to export to a Google Drive folder on a computer, which isn't particularly elegant, but it gets the job done. We've also used the remote faxing feature, which necessitates the installation of the client. Once the ports have been forwarded, everything works perfectly. There have been no issues. br>br>As of this writing (8/21/17), CimFAX has been up and running for about a week. There haven't been any problems so far. It quietly chuggs away, delivering faxes in PDF format to their destinations. As it should be for a good fax server. There are no monthly fees, overages, gimmicks, or a client that keeps crashing. I was worried that the A5 wouldn't be adequate for our requirements. I was worried that this wouldn't be a good solution because it appears that the entire tech industry has shifted away from software-based solutions. faxed from PCs (apparently for no good reason). The fact that this device has received 4 and 5 star reviews from people who appear to be technically savvy gave me a glimmer of hope. Its two and one star reviews are from people who clearly aren't. We were desperate for a paperless fax solution in one of our offices, so I put my money and time on the line to give it a shot. br>br>It was ridiculously simple to set up. I did not use the included CDROM and instead downloaded the CIMFax software from their website. By using DHCP, I was able to obtain an IP address. It was automatically discovered on the network by the software. br>br>It's fantastic. The device works just as well as a raw fax machine as the HP MFPs we were hoping to replace with a paperless solution. br>br>It's fantastic. We were faxing, receiving faxes, and storing them in no time. br>br>Had a problem with the Fax to Email options (my fault), so we contacted support. Anrey in tech support was fantastic, and he remotely connected to our computer and set up the fax server to our satisfaction. br>br>When we have a problem or a question, we simply email Anrey and the issue is resolved within hours. br>br>These days, it is difficult to find a company that produces a top product, has world-class support, takes ownership of, and knows their product, and resolves technical issues quickly and effortlessly. br>br>This product comes highly recommended.
It is what it is. It's very simple to set up CimFax for use on your local network. Installing for remote access (on-the-go laptop or iPhone) is a completely different story. The user must create a tunnel between the router and the CimFax (Port Range 3001-3009). 3008). It's always an adventure when you're doing something like that.
