It does not, in fact. At the very least, I am unaware of it if it exists. We use it at our office, and it accepts a lot of faxes even when no one is there all weekend. It also has a memory in case it runs out of paper. As a result, no faxes will be lost.
It comes with both a toner and a drum starter cartridge.
You're probably on manual, as I am because I use the same phone line for my answering machine and talking. To get a fax into manual mode, I tell people who are sending faxes to call me right before they send the fax. Then make sure the power is turned on, and when they send the fax, press the "hook" button, which answers the phone and allows the fax machine to accept the fax. Finally, turn the machine off. If you have a second phone line, you can connect the fax machine to that line and set it to automatic mode. Although the cartridges are pricey, there are refill companies that will refill empty cartridges for around $30. Typically, they will simply take your empty cartridge and replace it with one that has already been refilled.

a long-term look at the machine (plus some pointers on how to deal with those pesky toner low messages) In 2007, I paid $194 for this fax machine. Over the nearly four years that we've owned it, we've only used it as a fax machine and copier a few times. We recently received a "toner low" message, indicating that we had printed nearly 2500 pages, and we are now receiving a "Toner Life End" message. (See tip #1 below for how we got around the Toner Life End message and kept the machine printing. ) )br>br>On rare occasions, there is a misfeed. The machine has never failed me. br>br>The copies are good, though a little heavier than a high-end copy machine, and the only complaint I have is that it is quite noisy when it first starts up. Another reviewer described it as sounding like a jet plane about to take off. I'm not sure what was meant, but I get it! The price-to-performance ratio is excellent. br>br> br>br>Here are two suggestions I got from other reviewers that can help those who aren't in the know solve problems. 1. br>br> Even if the machine has just received a fax, after the "Toner Life End" message appears, it refuses to print. After the Low Toner warning appears, the machine may refuse to print, despite the fact that the cartridge contains more toner. br>br>Here's a suggestion (thanks to C. ): (MacPhail. ) Remove the toner cartridge from the printer. There are clear plastic-covered buttons on both sides of the cartridge. a hole that has been covered (It appears that light from an LED on each side shines through these holes, allowing the machine to detect when toner levels are too low. ) ) Use a small piece of masking tape to cover both holes. Masking tape in the color blue was used. Not only will this allow you to print the document that is currently in the machine without the need for a new cartridge, but it will also allow you to keep using the cartridge until the print quality dictates that it be replaced. This could amount to hundreds of extra sheets. 2. br>br>1. br>br>br>br>br>br It's possible that you'll receive a Toner End Life error that you won't be able to resolve. br>br>Here's a hint (thanks to Jeffrey L. ). (Schronce. ) Remove the toner cartridge from the unit and open the front cover. When "Replace Drum?" appears on the screen, press the options button. Press the Start button as soon as " appears. Push the "1" and "0" buttons together as quickly as possible. The message "Accepted" will appear on the screen, and the error will be resolved. If you don't press those buttons quickly enough, it won't work.
I ordered this one from Amazon after doing a lot of research and reading reviews on different machines. One of the best decisions I've ever made! This little guy was the perfect size, was very affordable, had every feature I could think of, and was a breeze to set up and use. Everything went according to plan, and it was purring in a matter of hours. The first test was copying, and it took off right away, producing perfect copies with a single button press. The next day, I needed to send 11 faxes to close a financial deal, and it sent all 11 faxes on the first try by simply reading the manual (the recipient confirmed receipt right away). For those who are unfamiliar with these machines, sending faxes does not require a separate FAX telephone line or number. It worked flawlessly over our regular phone line. br>br>This little guy comes highly recommended from me. It performs all of the functions that a FAX machine should, and it does so quickly and efficiently. br>br>For the record, I had a question that the user manual didn't quite answer, so I called the customer support number listed in the manual and was quickly connected to a knowledgeable service representative who quickly, patiently, and courteously resolved my issue. Thank you, Amazon and Brother! It's been a long time since I've received such excellent customer service for a new product. br>br>.
00, this is a good deal. I purchased this about three years ago because I require a fax machine for my job. I primarily use it to send out 150-200 faxes per month. A month's worth of reading is 160 pages. Every month, I receive about 5 pages of incoming faxes. To me, this appears to be a fairly minor task. Everything was fine until the machine suddenly stopped faxing a few months ago. The faxes would go into memory on the machine, which would dial the number and connect, but the faxed page count would remain at one. I've discovered that turning it off and on several times increases the likelihood of it faxing. However, you'll have to go through this process nearly every time you want to send a fax. There are no error codes shown. br>br>I contacted Brother tech support, but they were unable to assist me other than blaming the number I was faxing to (which works when the machine is turned on and off). br>br>Now, I paid $99 for the machine, so it cost me about $2 in that context. It's only $75 per month, which isn't bad. I truly hope no one is thinking about paying the $350 prices I've seen today. This device costs $99 plus shipping. br>br>I've replaced it with a Brother 2840, which costs $99. 00, at the very least for the time being. Prices on Amazon fluctuate a lot from one day to the next.
