Questions & Answers

It has a Bonade inverted ligature, but the metal is soft and I repeatedly need to remold it. Will this ligature solve that problem and improve the tone?

The answers are yes and no. Compared to my Bonade inverted ligatures, the Vandoren's metal is much lighter in weight. The Bonade should not require "remolding" every time it is used, depending on how it is stored. I suspect the case might be bent by something in These ligatures are of a substantial size. A lighter Vandoren should mean less of an obstruction to the reeds' vibrations. There may seem to be a bit more brightness or richness to it In any case, I would choose the M/O.

Sound and response are affected by finish. Is there a difference?

The finish is difficult to evaluate, but it seems that using a metal ligature over a plastic one gives a more clear and bright

Can you tell if the finish has an effect on sound or response?

Not a single one. I notice that ROVNER, the DARK ligature, responds much better to my playing, and for this reason, I prefer it more. The tone is excellent. As well as the OPTIMUM, I have the PREMIUM. The next pick of mine is the ROVNER, but it is my favorite.

I would like if they were plated in gold. However, I really don't believe that it is. What do you think?

There is a gold plating to it

Selected User Reviews For Vandoren LC51BP M/O Ligature and Plastic Cap for Bb Clarinet; Black Finish

Whenever it is needed, a fine ligature can be formed
3/5

The pewter M/O was designed to match a Selmer Centered Tone clarinet with unplated keys and it does an excellent job. The M/O ligature is highly light and very simple compared to Vandoren Optimum, which is pricier. Many may find it flimsy, but I would describe it as A reed with this trait is more likely to have a freer motion. It does not have any fancy interchangeable plates, just two bands that hold the reed into Although I like to play a Grabner K14 mouthpiece with Légère Signature reeds, which are quite thin, I prefer to play a Grabner K14 mouthpiece with Grabner K14 reeds. In addition, the reeds of this particular instrument are so thin that the ligature's prominent contact point does not touch it, allowing it to slide freely. Since the M/O single screw mechanism is non-adjustable, there is no way to modify Since Vandoren cane reeds are thicker, this is not an issue. With a pivoting pressure plate, the Vandoren Optimum fits a greater array of mouthpieces and reeds. As a whole, it's an elegant ligature with a simple appearance, but be aware that it may not be compatible with every mouthpiece and reed combination.

It's nice to see the upgrade
4/5

The fact that I'm a beginner and it's my first clarinet upgrade is all I can say I like it. The fact is, however, that I had to read up on how to use it, since I am a complete beginner. It did not come with instructions or paperwork. However, I started working on it several months ago, when others knew how to use it. Is my playing better now because of it? I like that the screw is in the front instead of my chin. I can't really say it has really any highlights except for that.

Compared with what is supplied at school, this mouthpiece cap and ligature are superior
5/5

I have a standard high school clarinet and a bass clarinet for my granddaughter. Her own mouthpiece, case, cap, ligature, and so on are now available instead of those the high school did provide her at the time. The young woman really likes the fact that she may own her own accessories that are of better quality for playing and maintaining her instruments properly.

In general, this is an excellent product
5/5

Despite ordering it only two days ago, it arrived to me in two days! As soon as it arrived I used it for a recital and was amazed at its quality and performance. Here's the deal There is a playability factor in a box. I can get a warm, sweet tone from it when I play it. I'm not sure if this is how it should fit on a mouthpiece with a mouthpiece cap, but when you store it this way, it is a tight fit.

The pressure on the reeds was sometimes difficult to adjust and I was not happy with it
5/5

Previously, I had been using a cheap, double-sided tape The ligatures for my Bb and A clarinets are screw ligatures. The pressure on the reeds was sometimes difficult to adjust and I was not happy with it. My teacher sent me the MO today, which I tried out on both clarinets for an hour. You can put it in right at the right place on the reed, and the single screw adjustment makes working with it seamless. I was very pleased with this ligature and would highly recommend it to any serious player.

I use this with my Vandoren mouthpiece and it works well
5/5

In this case, I'm very happy with the After trying a Rovner leather 1 on my Vandoren M15 mouthpiece, I purchased this one. It never seemed to shape itself to the mouthpiece with the Rovner. With this one, you'll have to place one reed in an interesting groove This allows the reed to vibrate freely. The first time I used this instrument, I found the ease of play to be improved in all registers.

This is not leather, but it is a good Ligature
5/5

When I looked at the photo and looked up the model number, I discovered that it wasn't a leather ligature (which I didn't want) - I did not make the purchase It is a black medal ligature. However, I just wanted to make it clear to any other shoppers It is a very nice design. I love the simplicity of the single screw (rather than a double screw), the notches on the two points of reed contact are perfect for allowing a nice amount of tension while still allowing the reed to move. The ligature has made playing the clarinet more manageable for my son, who was born with a gift for it from the start, and has even improved his sound with it. Also, it's easier for him to use (as a beginner) this more simplistic ligature to place the reed on the clarinet. The notch helps to align the reed properly on the mouthpiece when it is attached to the notched part. A less technical note of mine I think it looks cool to be black and blend in with the mouthpiece.
