Selected User Reviews For Gotoh Vintage Style Bass Guitar Bridge (4-String) Chrome
On my MIM Fender Jazz Bass, I already had a Gotoh 201 high mass bridge, but the high mass saddles (10mm diameter) kept the action too high. I didn't want to fiddle with neck shims to get the action right, so I bought this bridge to replace the saddles. At the same time, I bought a licensed Fender bass bridge, thinking that if the saddle swap didn't work, I could return the bass to stock. The Fender Bridge is nothing compared to this one! It's twice as thick and has a mirror-like chrome finish. Gotoh even went to the trouble of adjusting the saddles to a very close approximation of the ideal spacing for proper intonation. This bridge may require a few additional holes to install, but the quality is far superior to Fender's. The mounting hardware and Allen wrench for saddle adjustment were included with both bridges. The Gotoh bridge saddle swap worked out perfectly, and the Jazz Bass now plays like a dream with the high mass 201 bridge and the 203's saddles.
This bridge was purchased to replace the one on my Squier Precision bass, which had worn out. It fits perfectly (I believe it will fit any Fender bass), and despite the fact that it has two extra holes in the front of the plate that will need to be drilled out, it will work just fine without them. These screws just add a little more contact between the body and the bridge, making it sound (and feel) a little better, but you can still use this bridge if you don't want to drill. br>br>The build quality is fantastic. It has a solid feel to it, is gleaming, and is a significant improvement over the Squier bridge. I can't believe it only cost $25 or less. br>br>As for sound, I was obviously unable to compare the old bridge to the new bridge. I'm not sure about this one, but I'm confident that the sustain and tone have improved. Even if it isn't, the overall appearance and feel of the situation has improved. This is a hardware item that I strongly suggest.
This is an excellent product, but it did not meet my requirements. I needed a bridge for a cheap short-scale bass, and I couldn't find one. It was a lovely bridge that was simple to set up and install. My bass neck was too narrow to fit over the bridge. I required a bridge that had a string spacing of less than 16mm between strings. The string spacing between strings on this bridge is 19mm. Aside from that, there was no issue.
The bridge is of exceptional quality. Japan was the source of this item. br>br>My previous bridge weighed 90 grams without screws. This one weighs in at 150 grams. br>br>One thing to keep in mind: according to some reviews (here and elsewhere), you can skip installing the two extra screws to avoid drilling. I discovered that the extra screws are required to keep the bridge flat against the body and improve contact, as it tends to lift up when the five standard screws are tightened, unlike bent plate steel type bridges.
This bridge is of very high quality. I doubt I'll be able to find a better value for the money, so it'll be on my short list for my next construction project.
Metal that is thick. Exceptionally good. Excellent value for money. I'll be using it again on my next project.
The bridge is magnificent. On my electric basses, this is my seventh.
The bridge is fantastic. It has seven mounting holes, which allows for a secure fit on the bass body. Saddle height and string length for intonation are very simple to adjust.
