I've been using it for about a month now. It's never gotten hot on the handle. Only if it was placed over another burner or pan that was directly heating the handle could this happen. I've never had a problem using it for sautéing, browning, or frying. To the touch, the handle has stayed cool.
I don't mind putting this screen on my counter. I believe the feet are not hit hard enough to cause damage.
Stainless steel is used for the mesh. However, if used over a pan on a gas burner or over a pan on high heat, the mesh can darken (leave a burn mark). The screen's functionality is unaffected by the darkening. It's still effective at preventing splatters, and it's dishwasher safe.
Wash with a lot of soap and hot water, or put it in the dishwasher. It all depends on how greasy you want your food to be.

We've had a few of these screens over the years that haven't held up very well, but I immediately noticed that this one was of much higher quality and will undoubtedly meet our needs. Greetings, John.

Fits perfectly in our larger skillet and is very easy to clean. It eliminates the mess on top of the stove.
When cooking bacon, this is what you use to cover the skillet.

I use it frequently, but I am aware that some greasy splatters pass through the mesh. Good buy. Sturdy.
