Questions & Answers

Will the three-quart version feed three people?

I am single and it appears to be too small for me, though I enjoy leftovers. I purchased it specifically for the pressure cooking function, which allows you to only fill the pot 12 to 23% full. I love my 8 quart and am glad I didn't go for a smaller one, especially if you want the versatility of a cooking pot-in-pot. pot. For smaller items such as beans and beets, I considered the 3 quart. I can only eat so many beans and beets at a time, but small portions in the larger pot still work. Simply put, less time and energy is being wasted. If I had a smaller pot, it would be more practical for some things. It could be fine except for the pressure cooking. As someone else pointed out, it depends on how much you eat, whether you want leftovers, and whether it's a one-pot meal or only a portion of a meal.

Is it possible to cook a whole chicken in a 3 quart slow cooker?

You might be able to cook a full-sized roaster in the 3 quart if you quartered the roaster and split the body cavity in half, but the 6 or 8 quart is the size to get to easily hold a full roaster chicken intact.

Is there anything else I'd "miss" if I got the 3qt lux instead of the duo, aside from the yogurt maker, which I'd never use anyway?

I believe the duo or new version consumes 1000 watts; this information would be beneficial to those who are concerned about power consumption!

I'd like to make lasagna in a 3 quart casserole dish, but I'm not sure what size spring form I'll need. ?

You'll need a 7" springform pan for this.

The 4th Edition Instant Pot Recipe Booklet that comes with it is a great product, but be wary of it
5/5

It's fantastic; I love it. However, there is one major caveat. My Instant Pot LUX Mini 3 Qt 6-Quart Instant Pot 1 Multi- The Instant Pot Recipe Booklet, 4th Edition, was included as part of the package. There are a few notable omissions in the 4th Edition. PERFECT BASMATI RICE, PERFECT JASMINE RICE, and PERFECT BROWN RICE are three of the recipes on page 17 of the book. The Cook time is omitted in all three recipes, e. g. Cook time: 22 minutes should be included in PERFECT BROWN RICE, but it is not, nor do the other two recipes on this page. The only thing it says in step 3 is that is . "[Pressure Cook] or [Manual] and then [] or [-] the [] or [-] the [] or [-] the [] or [-] the [] or [-] ] button to set the pressure cooking time to 4 minutes. "br>br>If you're not familiar with pressure cooking, let alone Instant Pots, this will cause a lot of confusion and problems, because I guarantee nothing will be cooked if you set the time to 4 minutes. br>br>I haven't looked into the other recipes in this booklet, but I'm not optimistic that they don't contain errors as well. I did some research online and discovered that the actual cooking time is 22-23 minutes. Time: 25 minutes br>br>I also called the Instant Pot company, and after some explanation and discussion with a representative who was using the 3rd Edition of the above booklet, we determined that the 3rd Ed. The actual cooking time is listed in these three recipes, but it is omitted in the 4th Edition. I've submitted a 'trouble ticket' to the company, requesting that they send me a copy of the 3rd Edition booklet, and we'll see what happens. br>br>I did get a preliminary response saying that if it's under warranty, I should contact the company where I bought it, which is, of course, Amazon in this case. I seriously doubt Amazon will consider themselves in the loop on this. I'll try to keep you updated as things progress.

I already own the larger Instant Pot, so getting this smaller one for my RV was a no-brainer
3/5

I already own the larger Instant Pot, so getting this smaller one for my RV was a no-brainer. Everything I put in it burns, regardless of how much liquid I put in it. I'm extremely dissatisfied with this purchase and would return it if the box was still in my possession. The only thing that didn not burn on the bottom was a broth soup.

What kind of quality control do you have? I've purchased a number of pressure cookers in a variety of sizes
3/5

We've purchased a few to give as gifts. This 3 quart could have been used for a variety of purposes without taking up too much space. The pressure relief valve on this one would not even begin to allow pressure to build properly, so I ran it through the steam process to ensure everything was working properly in terms of seals, etc. The part inside the lid had been installed incorrectly, at an unusual angle, according to an examination of the components. After I did everything I could, the steam coming out of the pressure release mechanism on the top of the lid improved slightly, but it never stopped leaking a significant amount of steam, requiring it to cycle much faster than other pressure cookers I've used, and a "natural release" took no time at all. I notified Instantpot about the issues and received a number of responses, the first of which demonstrated that they had paid no attention to what I had said in my initial email to them. So we went around in circles until they finally said they wanted me to film it and send it to them! I finally gave up on them and returned the item to Amazon. By the way, I still haven't received my refund.

A massive letdown! Because I only cook for one person, I bought the Mini Lux
3/5

This product has been a huge disappointment so far. I tried the rice setting and had to cook it twice more before it was done, and even then the rice was still hard, so I switched to the slow cooker to make pulled pork. Only about two inches separated the port and starboard shoulders. 5 lbs. I started with 4 hours and when I checked it, it looked as if it had never been cooked. I left it in for another four hours and was still nowhere near finished. I cooked it for another 6 hours, until it was soft enough to pull apart but not so soft that it could be easily shredded. I was so excited to donate my crock pot and pressure cooker because my kitchen is so small. It's a good thing I didn't do that. I would have returned it had it not been for the fact that I had it for quite some time before using it. The concept of a multi-level marketing campaign is a novel one. A good cooker is one that does the job it was designed to do.

But I adore everything I've done with it so far
5/5

My husband got me a Mini Instant Pot for my birthday after hearing about how much my sister loved hers. He bought the small one because he didn't think I'd use it much. I cut all of my recipes in half because there are only two of us. Small individual recipes that require small custard size dishes are difficult to make in this small of a pot because they simply do not stack. But I adore everything I've done with it so far. It's amazing how quickly and tenderly everything cooks. I've only had it for a week and have already used it five times to prepare meals. There are a plethora of good Instant Pot recipes online, and everyone knows someone who owns one and is happy to share their favorite recipes with you. My only regret is that I only have the small Instant Pot, so I'll most likely be purchasing the 5qt pot soon.

It's a good product that's simple to maintain
5/5

It's a good product, as previously stated, and I use it to pressure-wash my clothes. I've tried it with beans (it works great), rice (it's fine, but not great), and a few pressure cooker dishes (it's okay, but not great). Dishes that can be cooked in the oven (they turned out fantastically). Because my previous pressure cooker was so difficult to clean, I believe that ease of cleaning is critical. This one doesn't release steam while cooking under pressure, which could be the key to less mess. This product has a couple of minor drawbacks:br>1. For the time after you finish pressure cooking, there is no timer or countdown. What is the significance of this? Cook for 30 minutes, then wait 15 minutes before venting the steam, according to some recipes. You'll need to start a timer yourself when it beeps that it's done if you cook it this way. br>(If you want to keep the food warm, you can use the timer. ) )br>br>2. )br>br>3. )br>br>4. ) It may "spit" at you a little when venting the steam. As a result, I use a chopstick to turn the valve.
