When the water reached power boil, I poured it in and turned up the heat. The kettle immediately began to emit smoke from the OUTSIDE BOTTOM. In an instant I turned off the burner and noticed that smoke was coming from the seam at the bottom. That smelt like oil burning off from the manufacturing process, and that's what I assumed it was. I cautiously turned on the burner again and waited for the smoke to disappear before turning it off. When I noticed that the bottom rim was getting HOT, I became alarmed! Fearing that either the pot or my stove top would explode, I turned off the burner immediately. I was satisfied with that! There will be a return! It is little more than a large tomato can with a handle and a As the bottom of the kettle has a seam, sediment and maybe rust can collect. Thus why the kettle turned red hot is because the bottom rim of the kettle is not in contact with the water. There is no point in spending money on this! Even for free (even in the future).
Pour over drip coffee is my favorite coffee method, so this kind of pot makes a very smooth stream of coffee. The size of the pot is unfortunately not large enough to make a carafe of coffee, however, and I need to fill it twice to make it full. Additionally, this metal is thinner and lighter than a typical smartphone so we'll have to see how long it will last. It is nice to have a thermometer on your teapot so you can be sure the water is at the right temperature. It lasted me only 5 months after I bought it in January of this year. 1) I don't like that the kettle does not make a sound when the water is ready. 2) The water leaks continuously and leaves a mess on the stove and on the floor. 3) The gauge on the kettle stopped working. It was replaced at Ross by a cheaper one of similar quality.
