They arrived drenched in light machine oil, which is a good thing because they're machine steel (except for one that's brass—more on that later), slightly magnetic, and corrode easily. I used a micrometer to check a few at random after cleaning off the oil and treating them with Birchwood Casey's Barricade* rust preventative. Every single one of them was correct. 0004 in. However, nearly every larger size, as well as the enclosing frame, had a burr on part of the screw hole. It was necessary to eliminate these. The retaining screw is just a nut and bolt with no locking mechanism, but it'll suffice if you peen the bolt's end so the nut doesn't fall off if you loosen it too much. If you wanted to, you could also use a split washer or a tension washer. I'm not sure what the brass 0 is for. 025 in. In addition to the 0, there is a gauge. Steel gauge is 025 millimeters. Unless you're sure you'll need it, I'd recommend removing it. Corrosion is promoted when dissimilar metals come into contact. This wouldn't be an issue if the gauges were stainless steel. br>br>The bottom line is that the gauges are accurate and reasonably priced. br>br>*Ideal for metals that need to be protected from corrosion without the use of oil or grease. When used correctly, there is no residue. Click here to visit Amazon. and it is strongly suggested.
I'm not sure why they combined two items that are nearly identical. The price is still low. It came with some foul-smelling mineral oil smeared all over it; perhaps these are submerged in shipping oil before being shipped. It is measured in fractional inches and millimeters. br>br>It is written in fractional inches and millimeters. The writing on these is a little difficult to read. br>I'd be willing to pay more if the markings were etched in a more contrasted manner. br>Comes with a flimsy plastic protective pouch that I doubt will last long. br>However, the pouch is better than nothing. br>br>I'm not sure how accurate these are, but I'm guessing they are.
I checked each one with my calipers just to make sure they were accurate, and my calipers couldn't even tell how precise they were. br>In my opinion, that is a pretty precise filler gage.
These feeler gauges are of excellent quality. Plus, for the price of one set from most other brands, you get two. Keep in mind that mine were a little oily, which I understand is to protect the metal. A quick wipe down, on the other hand, is all that's required. I had a wonderful time. Each set of gauges comes with its own little plastic case.
I spent 30 minutes cleaning the gauges because they were caked with oil and could have contaminated what I was working on. The quality of the machining is poor. The mounting holes are slightly off-center, but this isn't a big deal. The main issue is that the holes have barbs on them, which rub against the other pieces and may cut the thinner ones.
These rusted in no time. And that's why I gave it one star of value; you're looking for a good feeling that gives you good quality material, and these just don't cut it; I have to replace them every year, despite the fact that it's not the suppliers' fault; I wish they sold a better quality feeler gauge.
These gauges are of good quality, and you get two for the price of one from other manufacturers. They were easy to use for me. If I had to make a complaint, I'd like them to be a little looser in the case for ease of access.
304 stainless steel is an austenitic stainless steel, which means it is essentially non-magnetic. magnetic. Although the case is most likely made of 304 stainless steel, the blades are extremely magnetic. They appear to be a high-risk species, based on the amount of oil on them. steel with a carbon content It's still a good deal, but it's not quite what was advertised.
