It's still in boxes because it's too short for me, and I need the longer version.
Although I have no reloading experience, I believe that if the shell casing is deeper than 1 inch, the depth mic will not reach far enough. If the primer is larger than about 3/16, I believe it will work well. I'd have to take a measurement of the mic's spindle, but you could look up the mic's specifications online.
No, it only counts in thousandths of a millimeter (0. (Resolution 001).
338 inches in length.

There isn't much to say about depth mics because there isn't much to improve upon the design to make it better than others, but I'll go over the key features that a tool like this should have. br>br>It's a quality Mitutoyo tool, as always, and the aesthetics are superb. The tool body/thimble has a satin finish, while the base has a mirror (presumably lapped) finish. The measuring pin is extremely snug and rotates perfectly; The screw movement is smooth, loose, and not too tight. It takes the measurements it needs to take and does them well. br>br>I don't care for the plastic ratchet on the end; it could be a little beefier, but it's not critical to the tool's operation, and with so many cheap knockoff brands out there, I can't blame Mitutoyo for cutting corners where they can. The plastic locking mechanism is in the same boat. When taking a measurement, it's difficult to lock, and it could be designed better (even if it's made of plastic rather than the older metal locks). br>br>When I purchased this tool, I was torn between the two options. The bases are available in two sizes: 5" and 4" I'm glad I chose the narrower base because there will be times when I need to use this in tight spaces, and if I need a wider base, parallels or blocks can always be used to extend the reach.
This is a high-end item made in Japan by a reputable manufacturer of precision instruments. Unlike much cheaper items, I am confident that it is accurate.
