Questions & Answers

Is there a way to use this to determine the depth of a hole? Is it only capable of reading distances above flat, or is it capable of reading all distances?

Ian is correct in his assessment of the situation. The maximum depth of the hole is 95 inches.

Is there a metric scale for this?

Yes. With a single button press, you can switch to decimal inches (0. Millimeters (2. 0005), fractional inches (1 7/64), and fractional inches (1 7/64). 87).

What is the angle of the anvil used to measure the point? 60°?

My set included a second point, but yes, the angle is 60 degrees.

Stupidity at its finest
3/5

The iGaging angle cube and digital micrometer are both excellent instruments that I own. The battery drains even when the device is turned off, which is a flaw shared by all iGaging products. It is required to remove the battery from devices that use a 2032 cell between uses. That is something I am aware of and accept as a fact of life. br>br>When I opened this gauge, the installed battery was dead, just as I had expected. When I attempted to open the battery holder to replace the battery, it would not budge, and eventually the holder's soft plastic broke off. It ended up in the trash. br>br>Because the battery must be removed and replaced every time the device is used, the battery holder must be durable. This is the gauge's Achilles heel, making it a complete waste of money.

This is something that every woodshop should have
5/5

I use one of these to set router and router table bit heights, table saw blade heights, and other things, and I'm very pleased with it. I liked them so much that I bought a few more. They're made of plastic, but it's a fairly durable material that hasn't warped or become brittle in my experience. If you're not careful, the material won't harm your carbide or HSS blades, so I believe this is the best option for this application. It is very accurate and well-thought out. br>br> On your router table, you can set the bit height vertically, then lay it horizontally and set the fence to expose the proper amount of the bit. This is extremely useful and reduces the amount of time spent fiddling with the router table setup significantly. At a reasonable price, this is an excellent product.

I can't imagine my life without one now
5/5

It's a lot easier to set up the depth of the saw blade and router bit. y is much simpler and more precise. br>br>Clearly, this tool was created by people who use tools. Very intuitive, and commands are executed quickly (no lag). br>br>My device came with two additional batteries (for a total of three). This is a low-cost way of saying, "Hey, we know you don't want to go to the drugstore today for batteries. " On the back of the tool, there's also a great conversion chart with standard measurements for parts and metal sheet goods. br>br>The only aspect of this product that I dislike is that it is made of plastic. If it were made of metal, it would almost certainly sell for twice as much, so I believe it is well worth the money as is. I'll buy the metal version when it comes out, but I'll keep this one as a backup.

I'm disappointed that I didn't read the description first
3/5

(It's made of plastic, after all!) I should've paid closer attention to the product description. I simply assumed it was made of metal in order to be rigid and precise. Because the plastic has some flex, I'm not as confident in the accuracy as I would be if it were machined from aluminum or another non-deformable material. This product could be improved by adding neodymium magnets to the base to help hold the gauge in place. It will work fine without them, so it isn't a major issue, but it would be nice to have them. It was inexpensive enough that I didn't bother trying to return it; instead, I tossed it on the shelf, hoping that it would come in handy at some point.

It performs admirably
5/5

I've only been using it for a week, but it's already saved me a lot of time and aggravation. Measuring the height of the table saw blade has never been easier. It's made of tough plastic with a wide base that allows it to stand perfectly straight. Because the measuring tip is made of hardened steel, the saw blade teeth should not damage it. My only gripe is that the battery holder is reversed when removed from the package to avoid battery drain. The packaging, however, makes no mention of this. Because the battery holder does not appear to be out of place when reversed, I opened a second battery (it comes with two spares) thinking the unit's battery was dead because it would not "turn on. " After about 10 minutes of frustration (during which the second battery also failed to function), I peered into the battery housing and discovered that the contact is on the bottom of the housing, whereas the battery holder had the contact on the top when it arrived. The problem was resolved by simply flipping the battery housing over. A simple one-sentence notice would have sufficed to avoid the anxiety and wasted time; otherwise, the unit appears to do its job admirably. Other applications, particularly the ability to measure the depth of angles, are something I am looking forward to.

For dado joints, this is a must-have item
5/5

I use a tape measure to set distances and heights for my router and table saw when I make dado joints on a regular basis. For the most part, my method has worked well, but using this multi-faceted approach has proven to be more effective. In terms of accuracy and efficiency, the gauge has been invaluable. I am confident in my cuts and can quickly adjust measurements if necessary. br>br>Because the tool is so light, I was initially concerned about its quality and the possibility that it would break while I was using it. However, after using the gauge for a while, I've discovered that it's extremely strong and long-lasting. Three measurement options are available on the LCD display: br>br> Metric, fractions, and decimals (to within a tenth of a tenth of a tenth of a tenth of (Supposedly, the number is 001. ) I've mostly used the fractions setting, which has been proven to be accurate through tape measure comparisons. It includes two extra batteries and a pointed anvil (a flat anvil is already installed). Simply unscrew and screw the anvils back into the ruler's end to replace them. br>br>For $20 (plus shipping; I didn't have Prime when I bought it), this tool is a great deal that I highly recommend!.

Garbage
3/5

I bought this a few years ago and have probably only used it a dozen times since then. I just tossed it in the trash. The readout blinks on and off and switches from inch to metric at random because the battery tray does not hold the battery properly. I tried everything I could think of to make it work, but it wouldn't. br>Purchased a Computors product for around the same price, which I discovered is more accurate, has a smoother action, and includes magnets in the base. br>Do yourself a favor and stay away from this.

The screen should be perpendicular to the stylus for maximum accuracy
4/5

I like how accurate this gauge is, but reading it is a pain. This is primarily used to set the height of the router table bit, as well as the depth of the fence and the height of the table saw blade. I don't like how the screen is oriented in relation to the measuring stylus. I wish the screen could be turned so that the measuring stylus was perpendicular to it.
