Questions & Answers

Is there a calibration certificate included with this?

I haven't ordered these in a long time, but I believe it would have had to be necessary for me to do so.

How tall are you? the distance between the bottom of the base and the top of the dial? Could you please and thank me?

The distance between the top of the dial and the bottom of the base is three. 750

Is it possible to take the dial indicator out of the base and replace it with another dial indicator?

It will fall apart, and I don't believe anything other than the same gauge can be used in its place.

DOESN'T MEASURE SMALL HOLES BEGINNING AT ZERO INCHES! Despite the fact that it is advertised as having a measurement range of zero to twenty-four inches, It only measures from 0" with the smallest/shortest nib to two inches
3/5

And that point, which, based on the description, appears to be 0. In reality, "078" is a zero. 2". br>br>The point of the needle and 0. Both the "078" point and the "0" point are measured from a minimum of 0. 995". So, if you're probing holes smaller than 0, you'll need to use a smaller drill bit. You WILL NOT be able to measure from 0" - 2" (which is the specific application for which I purchased this device). You can only measure from a minimum of 1"! br>br>I spoke with Fowler tech support and they confirmed that this is a device limitation. br>br>As a side note - I can't find it in the description, so: The threading on the shaft is 4 and the shaft is 3/8" in diameter. M2. This device will not accept 5 points.

The quality was a letdown
3/5

Although I am not currently a professional machinist, I purchased this for use in my garage, and I have other Fowler instruments that I am very pleased with. During my time in school, I worked as a production machinist, so I have some nice tools and experience with them. This instrument did not make me very happy. The one I got had a noticeable rub or pause during the depth rod's travel, which is unacceptable for professional or home use. You won't get accurate depth information if the rod is hung up. I was able to get a refund because I returned mine. I'm sure not all of these have the same issue as mine, but the overall quality of the unit was not up to par with my other machinist tools.

This will save you money
5/5

I work as a professional machinist and am slowly expanding my tool collection. I was interested in this gauge because the man I was shadowing had a Mitutoya that was nearly identical to this one. His cost him more than $400. I purchased this with the expectation of returning it, but I decided to give it a shot. It worked flawlessly when I first got it and continues to do so. Using the /- key 001 dim can be achieved with ease. When changing out rods, you'll need to re-zero, but that's something you should do anyway to ensure accurate measurements every time. I have and will continue to recommend this product; for under $100, it's worth a shot.

The dial depth gage works as it should, and the product is of good quality at a reasonable price
4/5

Because rod lengths vary, the indicator must be reset to zero when changing rods, albeit for only a few thousandths of a second. I simply use a gage block on a surface plate, so it's not a big deal. If you make gate inserts on a regular basis, this is a must-have tool.
