I haven't decided yet. I looked it over and couldn't find any information about where it was made. Starrett has locations in four or five countries, according to the website. I'm sorry, but I'm unable to assist.

This is one of the most precise dial bore gauges I've ever used. It gets a three out of five from me. The spring pressure on the anvil is so great that it carves a DEEP groove right into your engine bearings, earning it a five-star rating. With this gauge, I completely destroyed a $200 set of engine bearings, even with the gentlest touch. You should not use this dial bore gauge to check bearing clearances, but you will be hard pressed to find a better dial bore gauge under $500 for measuring inside hard surface housings.
Starrett consistently delivers exceptional quality and accuracy. My only gripe is that it takes a long time to get used to - You must first determine what (small) range you will be measuring in, then add an extension piece (for larger measurements), another extension piece (for some measurements), and an extra shim or two (for some measurements). I recently measured a bore that was just a smidgeon over 4. 250" and had to complete ALL of the aforementioned tasks. This does not appear to be due to a lack of design - It's simply the way these gauges function. Despite the negative comments above, I still give this 5 stars because it is a highly accurate and precision piece of equipment that does exactly what it is supposed to do. br>br>Despite the negative comments above, I still give this 5 stars because it is a highly accurate and precision piece of equipment that does exactly what it is supposed to do. br>br>.
I have an older version of this starrett, but it was in my Panamanian home, so I had to buy a new one for the job. The previous version was far more user-friendly than this one. You'll need to practice with this one to be confident in your readings.
It's simple to set up if you have half a brain and some mechanical aptitude.
Unfortunately, when I received the item, it was found to be defective. I believe it is not the original brand, but rather a Chinese knockoff.
It's fantastic! It appears to be quite accurate.
Bore gage is excellent.
