No, it's inches and decimals, and converting to metric would be straightforward.
It's Shar's level of excellence.
Bore gauges are used to measure bores, as their name suggests.
A "dial" bore gage is what it is called. Calibration is simply a test of dial repeatability. damage. At each setup, it is compared to the size standards. There is no need for prior calibration.

br>br>There is a plastic shell that surrounds the dial indicator, but it's not required. You clamp the shell onto the handle after mounting the dial to the top of the handle you'll be using. A plastic sleeve on each of my two handles holds the shell in place. The shell fit on one but not the other in my kit because the handles were different sizes. I disassembled it and discovered that the machining in this area differs from handle to handle; the dial mounting area was fine, but the shell was not. One of the handles appeared to be too large, so they simply slid a larger plastic sleeve over it and called it a day. I dismantled the one that was too big, put it in my lathe, and turned it down to the right size, then made a sleeve for it and reassembled it. Everything now appears to be in its proper place. br>br>I had no problems using the tool, and the small head came in handy for checking lifter bores right away. When I screwed in the probe size I needed, I discovered that if I screwed it in too far, the mechanism would bind. Everything was fine once I got it adjusted to where I needed it, and the measurements were accurate. I discovered that the results could be replicated. br>br>This set reminded me of other low-cost import tools I've purchased; they generally work well but occasionally require a little tweaking to get them to work properly. So, after an hour of figuring out how to get things to work the way they should, I'm satisfied with the tool and its price. It will work right out of the box, even if you don't "fix" it. br>br>Despite the flaws, I gave it 5 stars because you can't get these for this price anywhere else, and it wasn't a deal breaker.
I wish I had read more reviews first. br>br>The first thing I noticed was that one of the heads was gummed up, and removing and replacing the collar was difficult. br>br>I began reading reviews to see if anyone else had experienced the same issue, but instead discovered a completely different issue. My three stars, like the one I read, are similar to the one I read. The 8" anvil shank does not fit into either of the heads it is supposed to, and threading the 2" extension proved difficult. The other reviewer was given a score of two out of ten. 3 of them didn't fit, and his or her 2" extension wouldn't even thread! It has everything I'm looking for in a precision measuring device. br>br>.
I wish I had done it a long time ago! br>At first, it appeared that setting it up and adjusting it for each job would be inconvenient. It's a breeze once you've done it a few times. There is only a minor learning curve to contend with. br>This is a no-brainer for repetitive tasks. It appeals to my tastes. br>Perhaps you could get something more elegant for five times the price. If you have the funds, go ahead and do it. This, in the meantime, is fantastic.
For the money, this is an excellent bore gauge. br>I needed this to double-check the machine shop's accuracy before rebuilding a couple of engines. br>I found this tool to be simple to use and accurate enough for my purposes. The only drawback was the cheap little gauge protector, which I ended up removing and throwing away.
Great for the store, high-quality product at a reasonable price!.
This was purchased to use as a measuring tool for a bare 350 block that I purchased on eBay. Every time I take a measurement (there are 68 on a sbc), I have to re-set the bore gauge to ensure that it is still reading correctly. Save some more cash and invest in a better gauge.
It'll be fine. It's nothing special or fancy, but it'll do for the money. I like the case because it gets you to within a thousandth of a millimeter of accuracy.
After conducting extensive research on a variety of forums and websites in search of the top ten Dial Bore Gauge sets, this set consistently appeared on all of those lists. As a result, this kit was chosen. On a Ford 4, I used it to inspect bearing clearances. After it was returned from the machine shop, a 6L engine was installed. It did what it was supposed to do, and the case that came with it is perfect.
