Approximately one foot in length. I believe universal extension rods are available but I am not 100% on that.
It will, in fact.
Selected User Reviews For iGaging Dial Bore Gauge 2"-6"/0.0005" Deep Engine Cylinder Measurement
Instead of paying another $100 to the machine shop, I honed it out myself for piston fitting. It's great, and I've got it. 002" piston clearance (recommended for stock cast pistons) and, while it felt tight dry, the pistons slid in perfectly with assembly lube. Note to inexperienced buyers: this does not indicate the bore size. To measure the pistons, you'll need a caliper, and you'll zero this tool on that measurement to see how many there are. You've exceeded that dimension by 001. I simply used a cheap HF locking digital dial caliper that was locked to the skirts' diameter; the actual reading is irrelevant; all you need is the dimension to zero this tool on it.
This appears to be a good price for a bore gauge that will only be used once in a while. I have other iGaging products, and they're all fine for what they're designed to do. I used this to fine-tune a Cummins 6BT block by comparing it to my microphones. It worked well and quickly identified any taper or out of round cylinders in my collection. It appeared to be correct and, more importantly, consistent. Instead, I would have preferred a Mitutoyo, but I couldn't justify the expense for such infrequent use. This worked perfectly and at a very low price.
I hate to be the naysayer, but when I opened it, the dial face with the red ring fell right off, and I thought to myself, oh no. As a result, I re-snapped it. I was able to get back on track after a brief period of inactivity. I tightened the side-mounted stop rotating screw, but it continued to fall off. Plus, the two black indicators fell to the bottom with no friction, so you could find your stops in any direction. The rest of the tool appeared to be in good working order; however, I was unable to keep it. I'm hoping I'm the only one who got it wrong.
It is of good quality. It arrived in excellent condition and works perfectly. The dial is simple to read, and the graduations are spaced far enough apart that you can judge accuracy with greater precision than before. 0005". To those writing reviews about the tools needed to set up, if you don't know how to use a bore gage, either watch youtube or don't buy this product; don't give something a bad review just because you don't know how to use it.
The collar for locking down the bore rods was not compatible with the adapter for larger bore sizes right out of the box. The external threads on the adapter were a little rough around the edges and needed a little filing to fit properly. Aside from that minor point, the tool performs well and is repeatable, which is exactly what I'm looking for.
This isn't a machine shop-quality tool, but it isn't either. br>br>I bought it to measure the bores of hydraulic cylinders, and my tolerances are usually 0. 002"/0. 005", and this gauge is ideal for such applications.
It appears to be accurate and simple to use, which is exactly what I needed for checking my cylinder bores for an engine rebuild project. br>Before measuring your cylinder, you'll need an outside micrometer to set this gauge to the correct size.
Nice little gage, but the anvils could use some fine tuning.
