iGaging ABSOLUTE ORIGIN 0-4" Digital Electronic Caliper - IP54 Protection/Extreme Accuracy

I am a CNC machinist and I never use calipers for exact measurements (always microscopic tolerances), so I bought these to use for rough measurements to check parts as they ran. The reason I selected this is because of all the positive reviews, especially the ones that said the product is comparable to Mitutoyo. Thank you for your comments. I'm sorry I was influenced by them. Higher quality will give very steady readings as you move up and down the scale, whereas lower quality takes longer to stabilize. In comparison to Mitutoyo or Starret, the repeatability of these measurements is far less good. As far as I am concerned, the friction and feeling of the slide are too loose. My attempt to tighten gib screws on the back did not improve the situation much. A 5 thou burr was present on the actual tip (the angle-ground sharp points on the front), so I had to smooth it out The positive side of this is that it's cheapish and way better than a Starret or Mitutoyo since it'll take a dive into the coolant, but I completely disagree with those who compare it to those. This is not even close, but maybe I use it so frequently every single day that it does not make sense. It's not a guess as I have both Mitutoyo and Starret in the shop.

I'm amazed at how good these are for that price. Buy them before they figure out that they're giving away so much. This set of mitutoyo calipers has an easy to use design, and I like the way they feel as well. Since I have worked as a machinist for over 20 years, I was able to locate the flaws on the part. In my opinion, they do not have anything I dislike. These calipers have sharp ground edges all over them. They're smooth as silk right out of the box, and I love the style and location of the batteries. Do you want your computer to automatically shut down? I leave all mine on even though I don't use them very often. I find the batteries last so long that I don't have to worry about them at all.

An update follows. These are nearly worthless if you live in a humid region or work in a swamp cooled facility. The sweat from my hands causes them to go crazy if you hold them in one place for too long. Unfortunately, regardless of the quality of the content, it's a shame that they didn't release it. As for moisture tolerance, I give these one star because IP54 is not very clear to me. Having come back to correct this review sooner would have been beneficial.

* Brought to where I live, the caliper seemed to be working fine, but I later discovered it has a serious problem when measuring something larger than 130mm in diameter. It wasn't until I received the machined parts and realized the threads of the machined parts did not match the clearance holes of the part I was measuring that I realized that was the case. It was only after taking the same measurements that I realized that the caliper had jumped about five places. About 130mm is the time when the 3mm happens and then everything continues as normal. My cost for this issue was well above the price difference of $100 for a well known reliable caliper. I contacted Amazon and was told to contact Anytime Tools (the manufacturer of this caliper) because Amazon was not responsible for the product after its warranty expired. In the past, I had been able to rely on this caliper. Yesterday, No difference after I replaced the battery randomly flashing numbers keep appearing on the screen. My use of it was very light these nine months and I never dropped it. That would have been a Mitutoyo I should have bought. In the end, you pay for what you get! This isn't up to the standards of the finest Japanese brand, but nonetheless is a great cheaper alternative. A really smooth action can be achieved with excellent machine work and finish.
