To test for bullet resistance, I put it to the test. A grade of aluminum known as 6061 is a common grade. This steel was exactly the strength I hoped for, and at the same time it is soft enough for the amateur to to machine it using common tools rather than going to a machine shop for a harder steel like 7071.
