My original sponge from my Hakko FX888D had finally disintegrated to the point where I needed to replace it. I came across this sponge, which I initially mistook for a genuine Hakko sponge. I noticed the color was a lighter gray than the original black sponge when it arrived, but I didn't think much of it at the time. After a while of using the sponge, I noticed that the tip and lower barrel of my iron had developed a buildup of what appeared to be corrosion, which looked like dried mud. After dismantling the iron and polishing it to a nice sheen, I went back to work on my project, but this time noticed a brown film on the iron after the first wipe with the moist sponge. It was the wet sponge that melted and left a film all over the iron (wet enough that when you press on it, standing water comes to the surface). The sponge has been disposed of.
semicircles on the outside From the product image, it didn't appear that this would have the punched-out look. I can confirm that it has the same semicircles as the original one that came with the Hakko soldiering kit. br>br>Instructions state that the semicircles should be offset down into the iron holder water tray to pull up water. It also prevents the sponge from slipping.
Replacement sponge that works well.
It's exactly what I expected, and it's of excellent quality. I received a lower-quality product that smelled, so please purchase only Hakko products.
It's a sponge, in case you didn't realize. It performs the same functions as sponges. It's not as good as the one that came with my iron, but that could just be because I'm annoyed that my friend misplaced the first one.
Great sponge, very similar to the one that came with my Hakko FX- 888D !.
It was exactly what it claimed to be and arrived on time.
