I like how it works! When I was an auto technician, I used to use a small, wet sponge to clean the tip, and it worked for a long time

But recently, I saw a YouTuber using one, so I decided to give it a shot. In confined areas, it's great because it's a dry sponge alternative, just poke the tip in and twist a little and voila! It works great even in confined spaces without having to contend with damp sponges! I love how clean it is. With this one, you don't have to worry about the brass mesh inside accidental contact with other circuits since it has a rubbery silicon cover it can be placed upright or pressed into a holding spot.

It would be nice if the base was heavier. It is very easy to clean the tips of a soldering iron with a brass sponge. It would have been great if the sponge had a heavier base, because I have seen other heavier sponge bases. When I use this method I am either able to steady the base or just lightly wipe the tip with my free hand.

I had read some reviews that claimed that the item was very light, so I bought a 1/4" steel disk of the same diameter as the holder and placed it underneath the brass sponge. The silicone material is resistant to heat, which is why I like this product. My previous experience with shredded brass was good, so I expect the same from this one. There are no signs that small solder particles will fall through the silicone part of the unit to the mat below I expect that silicone is tightly bound around the base.
