They never show pictures of the top of this, and it never occurred to me that it was always photographed upside down. I suppose I should have been more aware of the threads. br>When installed, it is smooth on top and looks very nice; it is two-piece with the float inside and the cap is tapered so the cap fits nicely into the fitting and no smelly gas escapes. When your system backs up, the float rises to the top, allowing sewage to flow outside rather than into your home. Ascertain that the top is a few inches below the building's lowest drain. Because ours had been extended for some reason, backups would flow from the toilet downstairs even if there was no cap. I uninstalled the extension and replaced it with this guy. There is no longer any issue. It's tough, made of dense plastic, and should, in my opinion, last a few days short of eternity.
Instead, the overflow would have been directed outside. Although it took a few days to get a plumber out, I ordered and installed this relief valve right away. Despite limiting our water usage, we were able to overflow the valve, which served its purpose. Tool that is simple to use Install time is reduced.
