Gas valves will have the letters "G" or "WOG" (water, oil, gas) stamped on them. For gas, plumbers typically use a ball valve with a "WOG" rating of 600 psi. This isn't a rated gas valve, in my opinion.
I use it to hydroform steel at a pressure of 2000 pounds per square inch.
Yes, it is possible.

The advantages of this valve are that it is stainless and that it is inexpensive for a stainless valve. The needle valve does a good job of fine-tuning the gas supply at high pressure. br>br>The disadvantages are poor quality control, as with so many other Chinese products. Even with thread compound, I couldn't keep the threaded valve from leaking when I first used standard steel pipe nipples. To contain the high-pressure propane, I had to use brass pipe with compound, so there goes your cheap valve savings! br>br>The other major issue is that, due to poor quality control, the valve seat must be extremely tight in order to seal, making it difficult to turn. The plus side, I suppose, is that once set, it's difficult to move. Instead of the Chinese junk, I would look for a better quality valve if I had it to do over.
This unit is solid and sturdy, but it leaks at less than 100 psi when connected. To fix the leak, tighten the cap nut under the handle, but this causes severe stiffness in the adjustments.
On a hydroforming project, it was used as a pressure relief/regulator, and it worked flawlessly at 2000 PSI with a pressure washer.
