Selected User Reviews For Tojiro Bread Slicer 270mm F-687

At the very least, it appears to be a good deal for the money
3/5

I have 20 years of experience as a professional chef. I was strapped for cash when I needed a bread knife for the large loaves at work, and I enjoy Japanese knives in general, so I decided to save some cash and give this a shot. br>br>It looks great for the price, but it's only average in terms of performance. It never cut as well as our 'budget' Wusthof at work, much less my 9" Messermeister, which now lives at home. It has just enough flex to make cutting even slices from crusty sourdough challenging, and it takes more effort to get through the loaves. br>br>It's also not scalloped, with an even bevel running the length of the serrated edge. This means that, unlike a scalloped bread knife, you can't keep it sharp with a round steel; you'll need a strop or a very fine stone, as well as a lot more patience than I have at work. It must also be kept up. Even with just me using it, it didn't take long for mine to become dull, so I've put it away until I can sharpen it. It will most likely be given as a gift or used as a home knife. br>br>This is likely to be suitable for the majority of people at home. Unless you can't afford something stiffer and sharper, like Wustof or Messermeister, I wouldn't recommend it for professional kitchens or those cutting large crusty loaves. Wusthofs (pro?) are less expensive. ) are more efficient, but they lack the opulence of the former.

The rumor mill is true
5/5

The blade is able to pass through with ease.   I went shopping after accidentally cutting my index finger with a dull bread knife. There are a lot of good cheap options on Amazon, but I ultimately chose this Tojiro because I like that it's made in Japan, doesn't look like something you'd find behind the counter at a Subway, and it has a lot of positive reviews online. br>br>I just sliced through a fresh, crusty loaf of homemade no-knead bread and there was no shredding, sawing, hacking, or unsafe amounts of pressure I had to use The bread popped open like an Easter egg with just a clean slip through the crust and a few small strokes back and forth. br>br>A killer blade. br>br> This book comes highly recommended. The best deal
5/5

Over Mac/Shun/etc. , this is my preferred option. This is an excellent bread knife that is well-made and comfortable to use. It's far superior to any flat knife; once you've tried one that's curved, you'll never go back. The scallops' geometry is my preference for hard breads, and the handle is appropriately offset. It's perfectly stiff, and it's far superior to any other bread knife I've ever used. It's better than the fantastic, curved wide-blade wustof in my opinion, and everything else that comes close costs more. The steel is good, the grind is good, and it goes well with knives that have pakkaeood handles. Especially if you have VG-coated knives. Stainless steel 10, or something similar. br>br>The only better knife I've seen in this role is the glestain, which may not cut as well as the glestain and does not have a significantly better handle. If you're looking for a more upscale bread knife, this one is a great option. You can spend more, but custom handles on a bread knife are difficult to come by; all of my nicer knife rolls have much better steels, and I've never heard of an Aogami Super bread knife; those gyutos should cut any bread, period. As a result, I consider this to be a top-notch product. There's no point in paying more for a three-tiered bread knife.

Tojiro Bread Slicer is a Japanese bread slicer
5/5

Love it! I'm on the verge of becoming a serious kitchen knife user, and this Tojiro Bread Slicer could be the final straw. 1. br>br> I'm really pleased with how it looks on my magnetic knife rack - br>2. A lovely looking knife with just a slight curve in the blade! Like no one's business, slicing power! Fresh- A ripe melon, toasted bread, and a soft tomato Every time!br>3. goes through like a boss! I am not a knife expert (at least not yet!). ), but despite being the longest and sharpest knife I've ever owned, the weight and balance of this knife makes it feel so safe and easy to use!
4. The whole nine yards! I had no idea what that was until about a year ago, and it helped me get rid of a few of my subpar knives. I'm always on the lookout for it now that I know what it is!
5. Simply put, this is a very attractive, large knife that I adore.

The blade had snapped
3/5

Update: In the United States, TOJIRO offers no product warranties. I contacted the seller, who informed me that this item was no longer available, and I contacted Amazon customer service, who issued a full refund. Customer service at Amazon is five stars. br>br> Best bread knife until this happened out of nowhere. The knife snapped in half when we tried to wash it in the sink. I'm hoping the company stands behind their product, but one year of use for a $60 knife isn't going to be enough.

Your freshly baked bread is deserving of a good knife! I recently bought a breadmaker, and while I enjoyed the bread, I was frequently disappointed by how mangled the loaves were when I cut into them
5/5

I read a lot of advice — for example, Allow the loaf to cool overnight (it helps), get a slicing guide (I bought a bamboo one) — but it wasn't until I read Wirecutter's review of bread knives that things really changed for me. This knife is Wirecutter's "upgrade" pick, and at only a few dollars more than their "top" pick, I decided to go for broke. What I've found is that the knife's sharpness makes a huge difference, and this knife is razor sharp. It's also long enough to reach both sides of the slicer (which no other knife we own can), and it appears to be well-made.

This knife is the best I've ever owned for cutting through crusty artisan bread, which I bake
5/5

I was initially concerned about the knife's length, but once I started using it, I felt completely in control. It easily slices bread to your desired thickness, and it's a sturdy product that's not too heavy to hold. I was born in the year 1964 and I am 64 years old. Bread baking is even more enjoyable when you have arthritis in your hands and wrists. Thank you for producing such a high-quality item.
