Yes, it's perfect for cakes and pies; I warm the blade before cutting the cake. The warm blade keeps it from cutting into the cake or pie unevenly. I always clean with soap and warm water, whether I'm making thick or thin crusted breads. I never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever,
There is no indication of where the knife was made in the box or on the knife! It claims to be made of German stainless steel of the highest quality!

To begin, the knife is packaged in a very attractive box that could be used as a gift box on its own. When you first open the box, you notice the knife is quite lovely. I'm a chef, and that's not the word that comes to mind when I think of a knife, but it fits. A protective sheath is included in the box, which is a good idea given how sharp the knife is, more so than any bread knife you've ever used. A finger guard is also included for extra protection. After that, there is the show. I've cut homemade bread, bratwurst, hotdog buns, Kayser rolls, and cake with it. I tested it on other foods and it is sharp and capable, easily trimming a pineapple and a rutabaga, which tells you how good it is. It slices soft breads like hotdog buns without crushing them, which is no small feat, and the more dense artisan type breads can be easily cut as thin as you like.
I knew right away when I took it out of the box that the handle was too heavy for the knife and unbalanced, and that it wouldn't provide good wrist action. If you have to cut a lot of bread, your wrist will start to hurt; after only five slices of bread, my wrist was very tired. It isn't a well-known brand. Another issue I discovered was that the knife was too short and not long enough to properly slice bread. I can see why a bread knife should be 10 inches long.
My husband is the cook in our house, so I got him this knife. He took a look inside and fell in love with the appearance right away. When I first started cutting food, I was astounded by how sharp it was right out of the box. He is enamored with this knife; he brags about it on Facebook, and a chef friend tells him that he has the same knife and uses it in his work kitchen. The knife is of excellent quality and comes at a very reasonable price.
I haven't put it to use yet. It has a very sharp feel to it. On the website, there is a lot of talk about this steel being German. The German knife has been mentioned several times, but the problem is that it is manufactured in China. The finish on the handle is excellent. It's interesting that the pattern ends in a fairly straight line at the bolster, so I assume it's a Damascus knife. It appears that the pattern is stamped, based on a comparison of my photo to one found online. If it was real Damascus for that price, I'd be surprised.
Even before I look for sharpness, I check the grip and weight. The way it was placed in my hand and the creative way it was designed to flow from beginning to end. All the way to the handle's end, the blade is solid. It slices up nicely. It's great that it comes with a bread baker's scoring knife. It appears to be a gift! It came in a black box with red velvety molded spaces for each of the items inside. The blade has a damask pattern that is both attractive and unique: ) We've made the decision to stock up on supplies before the holidays. When it comes to knives, I'm extremely picky. stating the obvious- My foodie friends will love this gift.
The Blade appears to be of good quality. The blade is tucked into the handle, which adds to the overall balance. It's very sharp, so take care when taking it out of the box; there are protectors on the knife's edge. I used it to slice onions and chicken, and they both came out perfectly. In the kitchen, good knives are essential, and this one did not disappoint!.
I was surprised by how well it felt in my hand when I first got it; it's well balanced, and the handle has some weight to it. It has the feel of a well-made tool, which is sturdy and comfortable. I'd heard that the steel they use is brittle, so I'd been wary of handling it. Because I don't have a block and must store it in a drawer, the knife guard is my second favorite feature. I don't have to worry about it getting damaged because I don't have a block. It isn't high-end, but it is better than you might think if you treat it with care.
This is the second time I've bought something from this company. I previously purchased a Chef's knife and a boning knife, and based on the quality of those two knives, I ordered this bread knife! It appears to be just as good a value and quality as the two knives I previously purchased!.
