I had to go to the local hardware store with the filter and the disconnected braided supply line, find a customer assistant, and hold the supply line in one hand while holding the filter in the other. It reminded me of a scene from "Apollo 13." "I have to make 'this' fit into 'that' on both ends (supply line in and out)," I explained. The connection was made using a combination of three brass fittings/couplers on both ends.
A female NPT fitting of 3/8" is required. Compression fittings aren't going to work in this situation.
Yes, but as long as the slope isn't too steep, it should be fine. Even vertical, come to think of it, might work, though cleaning it will almost certainly necessitate cleaning the filter. The design appears to suggest that it should be mounted horizontally, so that is where you should expect the best results.
Strainers for inline use can be mounted in any direction.

I am at a loss for words. It is precisely what I required and performs admirably. My expensive appliance burned out because the water screen (which was not designed to be serviceable by the customer) became clogged with fine gravel, the tank refill was too slow, and the heaters overheated. I could have avoided the $1000 repair if I had known I needed this strainer.
I was able to get rid of the scale rust that was clogging up one of my appliances. In addition, it is simple to clean.
This is what I'm using to strain the hot water line in front of my kitchen sink. A tankless water heater can cook the minerals in the water, so I'm going to add another for the dishwasher line. It starts to spit out the dust. Although a vinegar flush is required, this filter keeps those pesky particles (which appear to be sand/rust flakes) out of my kitchen faucet. To switch from IPS to 3/8 compression, simply slip on an adapter. I'm in ecstasy right now. The vexing issue has been resolved.
" I had been looking for something like this. They were very simple to install and are catching all of the "junk" in my pipes!.
The item is exactly as described and depicted in the picture.
