Because of the design, I can crimp all of the wires on one side of the cord before splicing the other side one at a time, rather than trying to splice both sides together at the same time. I successfully water-proofed the connections with a Mapp gas torch, but I believe a smaller lighter would be safer to protect the adjacent wiring from scorching. To ensure reliability for an underwater application, I applied some pvc cement to the finished product, but this was probably overkill.

Use the wirefly crimper with this. For butt splices or adding terminals, this is the best system I've found so far. These terminals are used on the boats I work on because I am a boat mechanic. After crimping, they shrink with a heat gun, and the adhesive inside seals the crimped joint, preventing corrosion in the constant salt air environment.

Make use of a large number of them. In comparison to "higher end" connectors that cost around $1 per connector, I found this brand to be an excellent value.
