These are described as copper, but they appear to be brass with a tin plating. I didn't go all the way through them, but I did scrape the plating off a portion of the side of four different connectors, and the substrate metal is gold in color, indicating that it isn't copper. br>br>Nice selection, reasonable price, but much thinner than what you'd find in a car parts or electrical supply store. However, since they aren't made of copper, none of this matters.
I'm not confident in their ability to crimp safely. In my shop, I sell high-quality crimp connectors (photo), but this item isn't one of them. Because the metal is so thin, the crimp barrel cannot provide a gastight seal or any mechanical strength. I wouldn't use these to make a secure electrical connection. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A CRIMP FAILS UNDER LOAD: See the attached photo for an example of a good crimp connector with a strong crimp barrel. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A CRIMP FAILS UNDER LOAD: There's a lot of heat coming from the resistance and arcing. This isn't something I'd want to put inside a wall! br>br>Poor investment. I sent it back and replaced it with the crimp terminals shown in the picture.
Because they use a slightly softer plastic and a softer, more appropriate metal inside the crimps, I prefer the Chinese brand solderless connectors. Purchasing union connectors at Wal-Mart is less expensive. I've had better luck and found higher quality with these, according to Mart from 3M. These also have a larger opening on each end than 3M, which barely has one (it appears that 3M's plastic is harder and then relaxes after being swaged outward by their manufacturing process). Overall, I would strongly recommend this product and would purchase it again. With the amount of automotive work I do, I go through these things like candy.
For years, I've been using similar terminals. These are made of thin metal, rather than the thick metal that was previously used. After crimping, wires started to fall out. They need to be crimped like crazy.
Copper is not one of them. It's easy to pull it out after crimping.
Garbage. Don't squander your time or money on this.
There seems to be no such thing as having too many solderless wire connectors. The see-through divided case appeals to me.
I'll take the set for the price even if it's not exactly as described.
