As an electrician, I would probably use electrical tape and then shrink wrap tubing around the nick depending on how bad it is, unless it went through half of the wire in which case I would use a splice kit.
Yes, it works well with 4/0 aluminum and other materials. It provides a good seal and a tight fit. A++

Unfortunately, it was discovered that I had hired a shoddy electrician two years ago. In my workshop the other day, there was no power. I dug up the electrician's underground box because I knew he had one. The Aluminum 4/0 cable had corroded and all of the connectors had disintegrated. The electrician had failed to use waterproof connectors and the proper box seals. Fortunately, the cable had plenty of extra length. I cut the cable back to where there were no signs of corrosion and used the Easy Splice connectors (4 of them) to make the connections. It took a while for me to figure out how to get them to close properly. To begin, wire ties can be placed in four different places on each connector. Each end of the connector cover should have a wire tie. Squeeze the cover closed while tightening the tie wraps with Channel Lock pliers. Don't squeezing the cover too hard just yet. Take a second pair of channel lock pliers and squeeze the cover directly on both ends of one of the snap latches once the tie wraps are nearly holding the cover closed. Some locked with a click, while others did so without. Once it's locked, use a tie wrap to cover the snap down latch in the next slot. Then, at the very end, tighten the tie wrap adjacent to it. Repeat on the opposite side of the cover. I took this photo before I had properly tied all of the ties. As you can see, one of the ties has all four tie wraps in place.

The gell-filled cover provides a watertight and corrosion-resistant seal. The only issue was getting the gell case to close properly. That was taken care of with some zip ties and tape.
Because the wires had been cut due to ground settling, I needed this to repair a fault in my underground electric line coming into my house. It was incredibly simple to splice and reconnect my lines. The only issue I had was getting the box and gel clamped together, so I just used a couple of zip ties and wrapped the whole thing in some rubberized splice tape I had on hand. Everything was just buried underground again a few days ago, and everything is working fine so far. I was able to re-establish full power in the house with no problems; it worked perfectly!.
The plastic casing ends appear solid at first glance, but they are cut with strips that shape around the wire, which helps to keep dust out. br>Nice solid splice, the right size for BMW battery wire. br>The plastic casing ends appear solid at first glance, but they are cut with strips that shape around the wire, which helps to keep dust out. It also has a tacky gel inside that molds around the metal splice, providing additional protection and isolation. I used it to replace a terminal on my wife's X5 positive battery wire, and the large protective case gives me peace of mind. Overall, it's a definite must-have!.
The protective covers are filled with a sticky gel to protect the splice, and the wires are stripped and inserted into the connector, then the setscrews are tightened. The protective cover is then wrapped around the connection, ensuring that it is waterproof. The instructions state that you should use a large pair of pliers to close the cover by squeezing the ends until the cover snaps shut. When I squeezed the cover, however, it buckled, and I was unable to close it. I gave up after thirty minutes and switched to a different type of splice.
Awesome kit, I was concerned that the gel was “one time and done” sort of situation, but I was able to close and open the kit a few times and the% br>My RV/camper had a bad way of connecting my battery wire to the main split, so I cut everything out, upgraded the wires, and spliced it all together with this system! It's only four stars instead of five because we won't know how long it will last for another 30 years. br>br>It's well built, especially the black plastic gel wrapper. When it says "use pliers," it means exactly that! The fact that they provided a torque value for the set screws was especially appealing to me. This kit helped me repair a corrosion break in an AWG 2 lateral. There was plenty of space for gel with the two wire. I got Noalox () on the advice of an electrician and pushed it into the gaps between the wire and the splice before clamping the gel box around it. Now is the time to put in those 30 years.
2/0 and 4/0 cables make it difficult to close the case. You'll need zip ties that can hold a lot of weight. The tiea has grooves, but they are not included, and no instructions are provided.
