Questions & Answers

Do the top doors open in the same way as the bottom ones? Would it be possible to do this with one hand? The fence keeps out the raccoons, doesn't it?

In the past, I haven't had any problems with rodents or raccoons. There is a tight fit at the top of the lid. Depending on the size of the scraps put in, I can open it with one hand, but two hands work better to remove the entire top when adding leaves or twigs or grass clippings in large quantities. Be sure to turn it once a week at the very least. The pitchfork I use for this task serves the same purpose. Hope you have a great year!

Can the facility accommodate that number of people?

Twelve cubic feet equates to almost ninety gallons, according to the calculator In this case, you should use 5 gallon buckets to mix your nitrogen/carbon ratios. Use only the hardware provided with the unit, not the plastic bolts and nuts! The price is high, but I like the product
4/5

The first thing you must do if you want this unit to last a long time After you receive it, take the bolts and nuts that came with it to the hardware store and ask them to replace those with galvanized metal ones. Also, purchase washers as well. Plastic will not hold up very well and will rust in a very short time if not galvanized. You want to do that before you start using the unit because trust me, you don't want to mess with a dirty composter by taking it apart and reassembling The only way I would give this product 5 stars is if it came with good bolts and nuts.

It has a latch on the lid, which is a nice touch
5/5

A composter with a latching lid like this one is really great for kitchen scraps, especially in areas where critters might get into the compost. I imagine that it would also work well for people living in urban areas, since it will make your compost more neat and tidy. The number of these I'd need to handle five fall leaves is about the same, so I chose a cheaper alternative to leaf litter and use it for kitchen scraps instead. There has never been a critter problem in my yard. IMHO, a composter like this one is your best option if you're an urban gardener. In addition to helping you to set up the door easily, it gives you the option to place the two bottom sliding doors in adjacent positions The ease of assembling the bin, an acceptable aesthetic, and the sturdy construction make it an excellent acquisition. Now, I am going to give my review some thought to my compost PSA. This is the only issue I've had, and it is not so much a deal breaker as it is putting a wrench in my plans A specific example- There is a compost-bin problem, and it is a general one Composting and being There are wasps outside as a problem. A few years ago I threw tomatoes into this bin and there were about 50 yellow jackets eating the tomatoes. As a result of being extremely allergic, I had an allergic reaction immediately It took me only a few seconds to get back to the house (actually I could probably have outrun Usain Bolt in that moment). Within the next day, the group was gone. It was the first time I'd seen a wasp inside any of my compost piles or bins in a year of use. There has been some evidence that occurs occasionally with compost, regardless of the type of bin. Because I had unlocked both sides of the lid, lifted it off, and laid it on the ground before I realized there was a death trap there, I didn't notice. It's going to be used in the winter as well, but I may leave the lid off during the summer. I am able to see the wasps eating my scraps before sticking my hands over them this way. A moral to this story is You need to take care. The use of a different bin will not eliminate the potential for insects to sting. Your compost bin is probably outside, and you most likely fill it with food scraps that you throw away. It is not uncommon for wasps to consume food. You should get a bin that has a lid if you need one. There are many great options out there and I recommend this one. It's best to have an adult remove the lid of the bin first if you have children, especially since it's at eye level for them. It's impossible to exactly know what's in there (though you could lay 1/4" hardware cloth at the base of the bin to stop things from tunneling up without taking away the draining effect). Unless you notice that the critters are coming to your yard or your neighbors can see your yard, consider leaving the lid off during the day when you'll be in the yard a lot. You will then be able to immediately see, from a distance, what a whole nest of yellow jackets looks like when it decides to feast from your food.

I think you should get this composter - it's the best ever There is no comparison to pallets, tumblers, piles, or anything else for that matter! I love this so much more than the giant Mantis tumbler I received from a friend a few The tops are super easy to open, but the design has little flaps that hold them down so that they stay on even during high winds (75 mph and still they were I first thought, "this is stupid - how can this be composting
5/5

" When we first got one I thought, "This is super stupid!" Making a square out of pallets is no different than when I created a square with wood We're never going to succeed with this" It turns out I made a huge mistake. Not sure if it's because it's black and warm, or if it's because of all the holes but not too many, or if it's something else There's no doubt in our minds that this thing was made for composting!
From being stuffed full of garden clippings, shredded paper, and vegetable kitchen scraps - it's a very powerful machine! I turned to black compost in less than 4 weeks with this thing! It's just a matter of continually feeding it from the top (without any tweaking or screwing around) and then digging out the compost from A single problem exists. When you see a good one, you want to buy one too There is a second one.

The past two months have been As far as I am concerned, this is a far superior product to the one I bought on Amazon Unlike other models I have seen or owned, this one has a thicker plastic and it doesn't bend like the other ones
5/5

Overall, I think it is a great project My only experience is that I have owned it for a month, but it seems ** Please note Since we are experienced composters, this seems to be the best of the ones we've bought in the past fifteen An updated version has been included a month later. There is no doubt that this is going to be a keeper.

This is right up there with the best
5/5

This composter comes close to being perfect. A few years ago, I had one that looked like a garbage can, and it worked okay, but I ended up getting sucked into one that rotates. When used in those, things get clumped together in a goopy ball. Therefore, I gave it a try. This product is super strong and easy to assemble. There is lots of room for storage and it has a lot of space. I only modified it by putting a square of that foil wrapped bubble wrap they sell at Home Depot on top of the insulation. I live in a cold climate with a lot of rain in winter, so the composter will keep the heat in and the compost will stay dry because this as with most composters has holes along the top to allow air to enter, but it also lets rain into the compost. This is effective at keeping the compost dry and reflecting heat back to it, so even in the winter it will work. Therefore, this one gets a 5 star rating because I have not found a better composter.

No, it is not rat proof! Where are these made in Canada, and do they not have rats there? It's worth mentioning that this trash can does not have a bottom, which was my first surprise upon opening the box, so if it's placed on dirt, rats could just dig into it and get inside
3/5

Although I still have the still intact bottom of our old compost bin--which broke after 30 years--and it fits perfectly inside the new bin, I quickly found that the gaps at the bottoms of the sides of the new bin that do not have doors are just the right size for rats. In addition to the bin itself, I am constructing, at considerable expense, a stainless steel mesh cage to go under the bottom and up each side. This will cost more than twice as much as the bin itself.

The work is not completely perfect, but it's very good! The design is functional, has ample capacity, and is well constructed
4/5

I had to break off the heads of the screws held by the plastic bolts in the wall panel mounting area since the unit flexed as I carried it as I finished assembling it. It took me 3 attempts to finally get everything tightened to the correct position. To upgrade all the screws to stainless steel wing nuts and bolts with inch wide washers, I inserted stainless steel washers behind them. Having it disassembled allow me to move it or store it easily should the need arise. It's now a lot more durable and will last longer. A couple of nuts could have been added to each corner of the wall joints to alleviate this problem. Besides that, everything seems to be working as it should.
