Questions & Answers

Would it be feasible in the Seattle climate?

For my Seattle apartment, I have one. It works by lowering the temperature and making the heat bearable (rather than cooling the room). When used as an air cooler on a regular basis, it can make the air humid, which can be uncomfortable.

What is the volume level?

We use it in the garage and don't think it's too loud; it's similar to having a fan running.

Does this work with an external timer or a thermostat in the power line to control AC power?

Off and on, it's all manual. There isn't a clock or a thermostat in the house.

Is it possible to do this with dry ice?

No, ice isn't allowed; ice water is the closest thing you can get.

Even if the weather isn't ideal, it's still good
4/5

During the hotter months, I was looking for an evaporative cooler or misting fan system to extend my outdoor enjoyment time. Because I live in Houston, neither solution is particularly suitable. Undaunted, I bought this unit anyway, despite the lower evaporative efficiency. br>br>Unboxing/Appearancebr>The unit was delivered in its original manufacturer's carton, with no outer box. The cooler was bagged and foam corner blocks were used to keep it in place on the inside. To affect the cooler, there would have to be significant box damage. Apart from attaching a brass hose fitting (if you intend to connect it to a hose for continuous use), there is no assembly required once it has been unboxed. The refrigerator appears to be in good working order. build, but it isn't particularly attractive. This unit has excellent casters. Even though I knew the cooler's dimensions were listed on Amazon, the unit's size surprised me when I first saw it. br>br>Operationbr>All of the controls are simple to use and can even be done while wearing gloves. The float gauge is the device's absolute worst feature. It's very inexpensive, and it doesn't turn off the pump when the reservoir is dry. The fan speed (4 settings, from off to fast), water pump (on/off), and horizontal sweep function (off/on) are all controlled by the controls. The top of the unit has a fill door that is well shaped to help prevent spills. Vertical flow louvers are controlled by levers with a limited range of motion. While the device can be used as a simple fan, I have not done so. I've also never used the feature of continuous supply. I've only used the device in evaporative cooling mode, and I'm very pleased with how well it works. Because of Houston's high relative humidity, temperature drops are typically in the 7-degree range. The temperature is in the tens of degrees Fahrenheit (F). The temperature difference was closer to 13 degrees the last few times I used it. Though those temperatures are uncommon in this area, they can reach 15 degrees Fahrenheit (F). The reservoir holds a good amount of water, and the fan isn't too loud. br>br>Conclusionbr>While I'm sure this unit would be fantastic in Nevada or New Mexico, it's also quite good in Houston. While the lack of auto-leveling and the lack of a level indicator are both disadvantages, Even though the cooler's shutoff (or even a timed operation mode) isn't ideal, it's still a good deal. I would buy a second one if it weren't so difficult to move this cooler from patio to patio.

Outdoor Evaporative Cooler with a High Maintenance Requirement This item does not meet my expectations
3/5

It is ineffective for the dogs in a two-car garage - We've had several days with humidity levels of 40 percent or higher, and I've been forced to rely on my fan. This Honeywell unit's fan isn't strong enough to make a significant difference for the dogs. I also use two other shop fans. br>br>It's a well-constructed unit - sturdy - casters of high quality - Even when it's full of water, I can move the unit - However, where I live, the dog hairs and dust from the backyard coat the filters, and the unit must be cleaned once a week, which requires removing the back panel and two side panels, taking a brush - I brush my teeth with a toothbrush. and then spraying the filters after first removing the hairs. Cleaning out the water tank is also required at this time, and refilling the unit with a hose takes about 5 minutes. br>Even in Oklahoma, where humidity is below 40 percent, the air conditioner only cools the double garage by 2 or 3 degrees. br>I kept the unit instead of returning it because I plan to use it on my patio in the fall.

It performs admirably
5/5

The pads did a good job of getting wet when I first plugged this in a few weeks ago. I double-checked this after reading a review in which the rear pad didn't get completely soaked. I checked the pads again this morning (which I don't usually do) and noticed that the rear pad was only getting water on about one-third of the time. a quarter of the pad One side pad was almost completely soaked while the other was roughly 80% soaked. Because the majority of the air coming through the cooler comes from the back, I am blowing about 50% of hot air at me. As a result, I'm not particularly impressed. I like pretty much everything else about the cooler, but I bought it primarily for the purpose of blowing cool air, so good looks, maneuverability, and ease of use don't factor into how I rate this cooler nearly as much. The cooler's performance left a lot to be desired, with only one-star ratings. The fact that half of the rear pad is wet indicates that the air is not being cooled effectively or at all. For the price of this cooler, you'd think the manufacturer would have figured out how to distribute the water on the back pad. br>br>FOR LATER. So, after I left this review, I started keeping an eye on the pads after each use of the cooler, and to my surprise, they were always completely wet, with no dry spots. Maybe what I saw was a fluke, or maybe it was low water, or who knows what it was. In any case, I'm very happy with the cooler now, and I've raised my rating from 2 to 5, as well as changed the title of the post from Works Sort of to Works Good. Everyone should have a cooler, in my opinion.

I'm really pleased with it
5/5

I purchased this three weeks ago and am extremely pleased. This isn't a piece of junk; it's built to last. It is simple to operate: br>br> Connect the AC cord to an open window or door, turn the cool dial to on, and select a speed from 1-100. 3, set the switch to on or off (on means the cooled air is blown around rather than straight ahead). br>br>Water enters through a top-of-the-house door. A 90% full tank will last a couple of days at 5 hours use per day at my settings. It comes with a garden hose nozzle so you can refill it without having to carry pitchers of water back and forth. br>br>The device itself is large, measuring approximately 34 inches high, 24 inches wide, and 15 inches deep. It isn't particularly heavy without water, and it has caster wheels. The noise level is acceptable, and it sounds like a regular box fan on the first setting. br>br>Reasons why you shouldn't buy it: When it's hot outside, you live in an area with a lot of humidity. In that environment, evaporative coolers aren't as effective. It works fine where I live, which has a medium level of humidity. In New Orleans, it's most likely not so good; )br>br>Size: It's the same size as a TV from the 1950s. br>br>Aside from that, this appears to be a good product that will last a long time, and the filters appear to be easily replaceable if necessary.
