The water in my neighborhood is extremely hard. I don't have a filter, and I don't have any. As a result, I have to switch every year.
It's about an inch thick once it's fluffed up. In my cooler, I try to use two layers, but one is sufficient.
About a half inch
Although the description states 29 inches by 144 inches, I'm not sure where you got 12 x 12 x 29. So the rolled-up pad material is 29 inches long, and when unrolled, it is 144 inches long. I'm guessing it'll be about 12 inches in diameter when rolled up?

I took out the aspen and replaced it with two layers of this, and it appears that my swamper is cooling down by about 5 degrees. My house appears to be 3 or 4 degrees cooler as a result of it. In Reno, Nevada's high desert climate, this makes a huge difference. It appeals to me because of how clean it is and how simple it is to work with. Its uniformity also ensures that all air is humidified uniformly, whereas with aspen, concentrations and gaps in coverage were common. Because air flow through two layers is likely to be less than in aspen, the temperature difference between discharge and room temperature will be slightly higher. It also means that the fan is a little quieter, which is a plus.
Is it true that you don't have any stars? These were used to replace the old hay-style pads, which was a waste of time and money. The old pads were still functional, but they had hardened due to calcium buildup. I thought these were the latest and greatest, so I replaced the old pads one afternoon and put them back in the next morning. Between the two, there is a 15-degree temperature difference. Don't squander your money; instead, invest in industrial-grade hay pads. Don't try to fix something if it isn't broken.
This summer, we used it in the garage's evaporative cooler, but it's very thin. The cooling effect, I believe, was harmed.
Filters are far superior to those found in Aspen.
This is a fantastic cooler pad. There is no longer any mess, and it is far more efficient than natural aspen. Although the material is thin, I believe it performs as well as, if not better than, thicker natural pads. If this one ever wears out, I will definitely buy another.
It's easy to clean, and it's a lot more effective than the old fiber pads. Installing it was a breeze.
As a pond pump filter, it performs admirably.
Cooler that evaporates.
