Questions & Answers

What is the temperature at which it is lowered?

You can't set a temperature to lower to because it depends on the ambient temperature, humidity, and other factors. I don't think I've ever experienced a temperature change of more than 5 degrees in the ambient air. Keep in mind that this isn't an air conditioner; instead, it circulates water over a radiator while blowing air past it, cooling the air slightly. You can top it off with ice to keep the air extra cold for about an hour.

Is cross ventilation required for this to function properly? I'm going to sleep with the bedroom door shut because I want to make sure it'll work. ?

There hasn't been any need for cross ventilation. It's very cool. If you're worried, use a fan to blow into the unit from behind. On really hot nights, if you don't have any cross ventilation or a window to put it in front of, that works as well.

Is it possible to fill the water holder all the way to the top? When I add water, the volume does not register, even at the lowest setting. ?

I was having a similar issue. Unplug the machine, place your hand in the water opening, and then move the float (located in the bottom left hand corner) up and down several times. The water level should then show up on the screen.

So, if I don't have an open window, this isn't going to work? I have air conditioning in my house and only require this unit for my upstairs bedroom because it gets hot in the summer and the air conditioning does not reach the room, and I am unable to open the window because my air conditioning is also on. Please let me know. ?

You never know, maybe if you open the upstairs window just a crack, the hot air will escape. If that were the case, you wouldn't need this device (sorry, Amazon).

The best thing about this air cooler is that it
3/5

The fact that this air cooler cools effectively is its best feature. The design does, however, have some flaws. The most significant flaw is that there is no easy way to drain the water from the cooler, i. e. There is no sliding water tray or anything similar. This is significant because there is still a significant amount of water in the tank when the cooler shuts off automatically due to low water level. You obviously don't want stagnant water sitting inside the cooler if you aren't going to use it again for a while. I discovered that the only way to drain the cooler is to lift it into the bathtub and tip it on its side, allowing the water to drain out through the small filler door on the side, followed by a towel reach inside to absorb any remaining water. The filter screens in the cooler should also be cleaned on a regular basis. I haven't done it yet, but the design makes it difficult; according to what I've read, cleaning the filter requires unscrewing more than a dozen screws on the cooler's back to effectively detach and disassemble it. It's not very practical.

I was blown away
5/5

I bought it to keep a 2-bedroom apartment cool. garage for automobiles 400 square feet is the approximate size. Expectations were low given the unit's size of 300 square feet. I was in for a pleasant surprise when I looked at my measurements, which revealed: br>br>Temperature in the room: br>br> Inside garage: 103 degreesbr> a difference of 85 degreesbr>br> The temperature is 17 degrees.

Cooler that works well
4/5

Two of them were purchased. This is the second Honeywell Indoor/Outdoor Portable Evaporative Cooler I've purchased this summer, after falling in love with the first. Because the days were hot and the price was the same as on Amazon, I bought the first one from a big box hardware store. This unit appeals to me because it is both portable and capable. My living room is kept cool by the unit. It's important to remember that this isn't an air conditioner, so don't expect super-cold air. Also, you should not operate it with the windows closed, as this will cause humidity to build up. This is a concept that anyone who has used an evaporative cooler before will be familiar with. br>I purchased this unit to replace an evaporative swamp cooler installed in a large window. I didn't want the swamp cooler to take up any more space in my window, and it had become quite filthy during the summer. It also never seemed to be able to meet all of my cooling requirements in the house. I thought that having a portable unit would be beneficial to me because I could use it in different rooms. After using it for a while, I realized that having a second unit would allow me to take advantage of the portability even more. That's how it's worked out better. It took some time to get used to where the two units should be placed for the best results, as well as how to use the water cooling system to its full potential. br>When moving the cooler after it has been filled with water, be careful not to tip it over. This may not be the best option for an elderly person, as filling the unit with water throughout the day and cleaning it on a regular basis is likely too much maintenance for them. br>There are three speed settings on the cooler, as well as a variable speed setting (dubbed Natural Breeze). Variable speed changes aren't something I think is particularly useful. The fact that it would be difficult to operate the unit irritates and concerns me even more. Because the fan speed is fairly loud when set to high, you simply need to turn up the volume on the television. You have the option of using the unit solely as a fan or turning on the water to cool it. The Swing, which oscillates the fan, is a great feature. I haven't used the timer feature, but you can set it to shut off the unit after a half hour, an hour, two hours, or four hours, and I like the remote control that comes with it. You can use the remote to turn on the unit, change the speed, turn on/off the cool, turn on/off the swing, and set the timer. br>A couple of nice features for the cooling aspect are the ability to put ice in the tray at the top where the water drains down over the cooling pad and the ability to put ice in the tray at the top where the water drains down over the cooling pad. When it's really hot outside, this helps a little because the ice melts quickly. I've discovered that keeping a water jug in the fridge to use later to fill up the unit with cold water is also beneficial. The amount of water dispensed by the pump over the cooling pad can also be adjusted using the adjustment knob. This may help prevent excessive humidity from forming or ice from melting too quickly. br>The cooling pad appears to be much more durable and dependable than cooling pads for regular swamp coolers. It appears to have the potential to last a couple of seasons, if not longer. It has a few drawbacks, including the fact that it gets dirty and is difficult to clean, as well as the fact that Amazon does not sell replacement pads. I'm not sure where I'd get a replacement pad other than directly from Honeywell at this point. br>You will need to clean the unit on a regular basis, perhaps even more frequently if you have hard water, as I do. The unit gets dirty (though not as much as an outdoor swamp cooler), and scale can form on the blade. During the season, you should keep the unit clean on a regular basis. The instructions make no mention of cleaning methods or how to prevent hard water scale deposits from forming or how to remove them. They recommend contacting a service center for these types of deposits. br>I would recommend this unit to someone who is aware that it is not a "set it and forget it" unit. You must realize that you will need to find the right location, adjust the water to your room's needs, leave some windows open, fill the unit with water throughout the day, and clean it on a regular basis. It may appear to be a lot to consider at first, but once you have it set up correctly for your needs, it works well.

Already, there are issues: The back panel's attachment is leaking
3/5

Aside from that, it's a fantastic product that allows me to spend more time on my back porch. It would have been fine if it had started leaking two years ago, but after only two months? That's not acceptable for the amount of money I paid for this:.

My 400 sq
3/5

ft. apartment was not noticeably cooler. ft. Garage in the city of Vegas I work out in my 400-square-foot garage in Las Vegas, where I live. I bought it in the hopes of using it to cool the garage. However, the scorching heat of Vegas is too much for this unit. I ended up blowing directly on myself because it couldn't cool the entire garage. This was beneficial, but not to the extent that I had hoped. The pump did not turn back on when I restarted the unit the following summer. I can't get the pump to work, but the fan does, so I take out the cardboard, soak it thoroughly with my hose, and then turn it on with some ice on top for about 30 minutes of cool air.

WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF A TERRIBLE HEATWAVE
3/5

I'm late for work. cancer in its early stages INACCURATE. Because there was a HOLE in the bottom, the two of them, as well as gallons of water, POURED ALL OVER MY FLOOR. HONEYWELL was the number I dialed. INACCURATE. INSTRUCTIONS WERE GIVEN TO BOX UP AND SHIP BACK. I'm going to reorder in the hopes of getting one that isn't defective. WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF A TERRIBLE HEATWAVE. I'm late for work. cancer in its early stages ELDERLY. I live alone, and the temperature inside my house is reaching 90 degrees with FANS on. Two elderly people in my town died in their homes as a result of the heat. I'm not sure how long it'll take to get another of these units. It is NOT a cheap piece of garbage. I've always thought of HONEYWELL as a high-quality brand, but if the second one is defective as well, I'll have to reconsider. By the way, there is a drainage hole with a plug in the bottom, but it is NOT the DEFECTIVE HOLE. When my friend called HONEYWELL, she was told that the item was defective and that she should return it. br>br>I'm not sure if this intense HEATWAVE will continue to be on- If/when a second HONEYWELL 500 CFM Indoor Outdoor Portable unit arrives, we'll get it up and running.
