Questions & Answers
No, it cannot be machine washed, and the cover cannot be removed.
No, I'm not sure why it unzips because it has quilted stitching running through it. It would be a waste to remove the cover.
There is no foam and everything is stuffed.
Yes, three inches is sufficient. This is all well and good, but there is another issue with this Futon. If you spill something on it and want to clean it, do so. It isn't possible. It's extremely difficult to remove the cover, and you don't want to see what's underneath. As soon as I opened it, I had to throw it away. It is abhorrent.

We went with the 27", but in hindsight, we should have gone with the twin 39", but let's face it, we're on a budget! br>Weird odor, similar to pepper, as others have stated. br>If you're used to basic futons in Japan, such as those found in a hostel or at a friend's house, the cushioning is ideal. Much better than what Seiyu (Jp Walmart) has for a low price. br>I got it for my husband for Christmas, and he was out like a light within 5 minutes of lying on it! And he won't have to steal everyone's blankets to make a sleeping pad. We recently had a baby and cosleep, so he's been sleeping on the floor for a while because he's such a bad sleeper. My children prefer to play on the floor as well, so this will be useful for the entire family. br>If you don't roll around, the width of 27" is ideal for the average sized person. br>br>Shipping was quick, but don't buy if you plan on returning it because you'll have to pay for shipping and they won't accept it if it's opened. Make sure you get a size that you'll be happy with; there are a variety of sizes to choose from. br>It's also cool because it's straight from the source. br>Real cotton batting (straight from the plant) with a foam cushion in between. The outer fabric is well-made and durable.
It is what it is. . . but it bears no resemblance to the "futon" mattress described. That's fine by me, because I expected it. However, I would advise the seller to come up with more descriptive words for their item. br>br>Here's what you should know as a buyer: 1. br>br> It's already thin and will continue to be so. There isn't a lot of padding. It looks a lot like the seat cushion in a dining room chair. 2. br>br>1. br>br>br>br>br>br It will be a hit with children. Adults might be able to handle it. Basically, if you have frequent (adult-sized) visitors and believe this might be a good alternative to a roll-away bed, Think twice before throwing away your bed or planning to sleep on it yourself. 3. br>br>4. br>br>5. br>br>6. It reeks, and I mean reeks, and I mean reeks, and I mean reeks, and I mean I'm talking about terrible. This isn't uncommon with factory mattresses or textiles, but it's unacceptable here. I had to let it air out in my garage for 5 days while spraying it with deodorizer every day. Although this isn't a mattress, most mattresses I've purchased have aired out in 1 - 2 days. Maximum of two days br>br>Here's what I've come to. It's a colossal-sized creature. a chair seat cushion in a smaller size I was fine with it because I was buying it for a child visitor and it was less expensive than a mattress. However, if you want something that will get a little more use, spend an extra $50 and get a memory foam mattress roll.
My biggest gripe is with the odor. It spreads to everything it comes into contact with. It has a strong odor that reminds me of the insecticides that were used in the past. I bought this for a child, but I'm not going to let him play with it. I had some pillows that came into contact with it, and they now have the same odor as the mattress. It isn't particularly plush, but it appears to be well constructed. The cover unzips enough to be removed and washed, but it is sewn to the stuffing in places, which also stinks. I'm washing the cover and putting the stuffing outside to dry, but I honestly don't think this will be used. I'm not sure what the chemical odor is, but I'm not going to take a chance.
I've been looking for a futon like this for a long time. It's a little too firm without a cushion underneath, so I bought a 3 inch trifold cushion to go underneath it and I'm sleeping like a baby - My back issues are no longer an issue for me. I bought two and use them as a couch during the day to make the most of my small apartment's space.
Based on the other reviews, it was much more comfortable than I had anticipated. I'm 5'7", 150 lbs, and I sleep on my side the majority of the time, so the 27" width is more than enough for one person. It may appear a little narrow if you haven't done much camping before, but it is more than adequate. I'd prefer a handcrafted one, but this will suffice until I can afford one, at which point it will be used as a guest mattress. br>br>While you're at it, go ahead and pick up some febreeze. This is a horrible mess. On day three, it's a lot better. For the first two days, I sprayed it with a kost of lavendar scent, which kept the smell from filling the room. I also agree with another reviewer who stated that the tassles can be felt through the fabric while sleeping. It would be preferable if they were not present. Aside from that, I'm very content. For the price, this appears to be a mattress that will last a long time.
If you're under 150 pounds and don't sleep on your side, I think this is a great option. It has a great appearance, is easy to roll, and is semi-indestructible. It's light and long enough for someone who stands at 5'11". Cons: At first, she was thin, slim, and smelly, but that soon faded. I'm not a fan of the sewn tassels. When you lie down on the matt, you can feel them. For children or people who are extremely light, this is a great little bed.
In order to keep it clean, I also made a cover for it. The fit is perfect, but I'm only 5'2/110 pounds. We were fed up with our air mattresses failing, so we switched to futon floor mats. The cost is comparable, and I won't have to worry about whoever sleeps on it waking up with an air mattress around them.
This was purchased for my child, and while it is not particularly wide, it is ideal for a young child, particularly if you want to provide them with more space in their room. These beds aren't for everyone, and many westerners will be turned off by them. However, if you enjoy futons and the firmness of this type of bed (rather than a spring type mattress), you will enjoy this; however, if you are larger, this is not the bed for you. I was also surprised at how quickly this item arrived.
