THEY COME WITH TWO TOPS, BUT THEY INCLUDE SLITS FOR THE CHEESE AND ANYTHING YOU PUT IN THEM CAN COME OUT. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO NOW IS ADD THE GLAD WRAPON ON TOP. IN ORDER TO COVER UP THE HOLES

Is it possible to use crushed red pepper in the round holes?

It is dependent on the fineness with which you crush it. They're a standard cheese/pepper flake shaker size. The slotted one will work fine, but it may be an "excessive pour" in some cases.

Hot pepper flakes go great with it

I bought these for a daughter who enjoys spicy foods, so I filled one with a dark smoked pepper and the other with an organic pepper mix with habanero as the top note. Will not purchase the insanely hot Carolina reaper/ghost pepper combination for her. br>This glass shaker extracts just the right amount of Parmesan from the slots. br>It would also work for other cheeses.

It's comfortable to hold and doesn't show fingerprints. They are not as heavy as commercial grade, but they are adequate for household use. The lids screw on fairly easily; however, you must ensure that they are fairly straight before beginning to screw them on, or they will not seat properly.

This is the genuine article. Shaker tops made of stainless steel sit atop lovely clear glass containers. One has slots for larger pepper flakes (or other spice/herb), while the other has larger holes that are perfect for parmesan cheese!.

There's no way to keep the contents from drying out because there's no sealer

The lack of a sealer between the lid and the jar is something I dislike. To keep the cheese from drying out, I wrapped it in plastic wrap. However, it is inconvenient and does not work.

Red pepper should be able to pass through any openings that are large enough

Many red pepper shakers have small openings in the top that do not allow the red pepper flakes to pass through, but this one had oval shaped openings that worked well.
