Although the temperature setting claims to go up to 400 degrees, which should be plenty hot, the oil does not. It will work fine if you cook at lower temperatures. One annoyance: Why is it necessary to tuck the temperature control right under the handle? This is how a lot of electric woks do it. To see the dial and change it, you'll have to crane your neck or stoop to just the right position. This is especially aggravating if you're preparing multiple dishes and have a full plate.
So this unit has been with us for about two years. It's been three months and it's still heating up and running smoothly. The only issue is that the Teflon or coating material around the heating element is beginning to peel away. If I recall correctly, consuming this substance is harmful to your health in the long run. We also only cook with silicon and soft utensils. When the price is so low, I guess you get what you pay for.
After three uses, bubbles began to appear, as shown in the photo I attached. Sigh.
This product is excellent, and the clear, vented cover is an added bonus because it allows you to see the food even when the cover is closed. However, the design of the heating element and temperature control knob, as well as their placement, has a significant flaw. The heating element is plugged in at the exact location and under the carrying handle, as can be seen in the pictures. This obscures the temperature control knob and makes reaching in to adjust the controls unnecessarily difficult. Furthermore, there is very little contrast between the physical temperature dial and the temperature demarcations, making it extremely difficult to adjust the temperature. As a result, poor placement of the heating element and dial is compounded by poor contrast in the markings, making it extremely difficult to adjust the temperature. Furthermore, because the entire system is recessed and tucked beneath the Wok bowl, it's easy to accidentally touch the hot bowl with your hand while attempting to reach the temperature dial. Oster could easily fix this by rotating the element 90 degrees (between the handle locations), slightly extending the plug in point away from the base and outward to provide better access and visibility to the controls, and finally simply increasing the contrast between the dial and demarcations.
Oster has sent us a second wok. We bought one about five years ago and used it at least twice a week since then. We donated it to the salvation army for someone less fortunate to enjoy because it was beginning to show its age but still worked fantastically. This new model is just as good as our old one, and we anticipate many more years of stress-free cooking.
It's difficult to set the dial because it's located in an awkward location. I'm surprised Oster has such a difficult time setting the temperature.
The Wok is simple to clean and cooks excellently. My only gripe is that when the pot is plugged in, the temperature control is hidden beneath a handle, making it difficult to see while cooking. Before you connect the control to the Wok, you must first set the temperature.
It was a birthday present for my boyfriend, and he absolutely adores it! Oster's products are my favorites because they're well-made and perform admirably. I would give it a 10/10!.
