Questions & Answers

Is there a Korean version of this rice cooker?

The Cuckoo, Colby, has never spoken to me directly, but it does beep politely at the end of each cycle in a universal techno-beep. The instruction manual is written in English (which has been translated). The control panel has English and Korean writing on it.

On the button, what language is used? Because the picture shows that the button is in Korean, I'd like it to be in English. ?

It's available in both languages, with an English menu option.

Is there a way to set a timer to keep the food warm for 6 hours? 8 hours?

I double-checked, and it appears that there is, despite the fact that I have never used it.

Is there a set of rice paddles included with this rice cooker?

That's correct. One of the paddles included with the rice cooker is number three.

Exactly what I was looking for - I'm starting to gain weight now
5/5

It was only a few days ago that I received it. I put it to the test with just one cup of rice - it worked perfectly. It took ten minutes to cook in this cooker. It took me exactly 15 minutes. br>br>I was born and raised in Korea. I'm an American, so I expected the Cuckoo to cook rice faster than the Zoji cookers, but wow, this was the fastest rice I've ever seen! This was on the "Turbo" cooking function, but I didn't notice a significant difference in the quality of the rice cooked on the turbo vs. the regular glutinous functions. Actually, I preferred the rice that had been cooked on the turbo setting. It took 5 minutes to make a cup of coffee with two cups. ten minutes longer - still as quick as lightning br>br>The rice kernels were fully cooked through to the center, albeit slightly al dente. Another Korean reviewer expressed her desire for a pressure cooker in her review. However, I understand this sentiment because I know Koreans prefer their rice fully cooked and evenly distributed from the outside of the kernel to the center. The pressure cooker models, on the other hand, are around $400 each. Furthermore, I believe that many Americans would prefer this texture, and I personally did not mind it. The kernels were cooked through and through - Please don't make the mistake of mistaking me for someone else. Only pressure cookers, I believe, alter the molecular structure of starch to make it more texturally appealing to Koreans, and there is a distinction. I, on the other hand, am not a picky eater. I believe that on the turbo" function this cooker still cooks rice to the quality that you would find in 90 of so called sushi restaurants in the US and that on the turb In other words, unless you're extremely picky about the texture and flavor of your rice, it's not bad at all. br>br>Also, there was no residual moisture on the sides when I opened it, as you might expect from a $20 rice cooker. Also, there will be no splattering or boil-overs. Even on the regular glutinous rice setting, the rice cooked evenly and quickly; the glutinous setting, I believe, took about 10-minutes to cook. Although it takes an additional 15 minutes to cook the rice, it is still a very quick process; for comparison, the Zoji models I'm familiar with can take over an hour. The slight difference in rice flavor between rice cooked for an hour and this rice cooked in 15 minutes was not significant enough for me to prefer the one-hour rice; I'm far too old and impatient for that. br>br>Also, I believe that many Zoji rice cookers rot the rice after a day because the warm setting isn't hot enough, but I believe that with the Cuckoo rice cookers, they got the temperature just hot enough to keep the microbes from forming too quickly, even though the rice may overcook a bit after a long time on the warm setting and turn a tad yellow from the heat. To put it another way, I believe this cooker keeps the rice fresher for a day or two longer on the warm setting than most Zoji models. br>br>Zoji makes really good rice cookers, but I think the top of the line Cuckoo cook better rice these days. br>br>This model still says to take the rice out and store it in the refrigerator if it's been longer than 24 hours, etc. , but I'm confident the rice is still good enough for me a couple days later, etc. br>br> It's similar to the Toyota vs. Honda situation. I guess there's a war between Hyundai and rice cookers. Zoji still has all of the best reviews from its previous position as the leading manufacturer. Cuckoos, on the other hand, I wouldn't dismiss. br>br>I'm in my forties and live alone, so I bought this small model because I've been trying to limit my carb intake. For the last two years I've only eaten rice once or twice a month for the past three years. My mother's family had all been diagnosed with diabetes, and I didn't want to follow in their footsteps. Still, I had a craving for rice now and then, and this model can cook very small portions, which is exactly what I was looking for, and I'm very pleased with it. It's simple to operate and maintain. Small portions mean less waste. br>br>Finally, the user manual's English was appalling - as if it had been directly translated from Korean by Google. I also read some reviews where people didn't bother to set the time, possibly because the instructions were unclear. If it's of any assistance, To set the time; br>br> 1. br>br> For two seconds, press and hold the left bottom button. This will turn on the timer and cause the clock to blink.
2. To change the time, press the same button. To change the minutes, press the right bottom button.
3. After you've entered the correct time, press the right top button to set the time, and you're finished! br>br>In the event of an electrical brownout, the cooker has a lithium battery, so if you use the timer function to cook at a specific time, you'll have less to worry about. Unless there is a very long and prolonged electrical blackout, your rice will almost certainly be ready and cooked. br>br>I'm in love with this cooker - The ideal size, function, and price - at least in my case. br>br>Now I have to stop using it because I've gained weight.

We've had four computerized "fuzzy logic" rice cookers over the last 20 years - they're all adorable and make great rice
5/5

(Japanese) Tiger, Zo, Panasonic, and now the Cuckoo (Korean). br>br>This is a lovely design that takes up very little space. It holds 3 dry cups of rice, which yields 6 generous servings of cooked rice; most people do not require a 6 cup rice cooker, much less a 10 cup rice cooker. Choose the smallest option. br>br>We usually use it to make 1 cup (2 servings) of Jasmine rice in about 20 minutes on the "Turbo" setting. br>For Jasmine rice, I go slightly under the 1 cup mark on the pot (slightly less water than indicated) and it turns out perfectly - With well-separated grains, the fluffy texture is appealing. br>br>After adding the water, we also add frozen salmon and tilapia chunks to the rice, resulting in perfectly steamed fish on perfectly cooked rice. The Cuckoo simply appears to know what is right.

It was one of the best purchases I've ever made! This is my second favorite thing on the planet (after my dog)! I've been using it every day since it arrived, and I'm already wondering how I lived without it! br>br>If you had asked me about rice cookers a couple years ago, I would have told you they were a waste of money because there's nothing like cooking rice on the stove, but then I inherited a small, super cheap/basic model from a friend when he upgraded and couldn't believe the difference in my rice; I used it enough that when it finally died, I figured I'd upgrade and started reading up on nicer models, but the problem is, as I came across this 3-piece set when I was looking for something else
5/5

I figured the cup model would suffice, so I went ahead and spent the most money on a kitchen appliance. The distinction between a base model and something like this is comparable to that between a bicycle and a car. I can make complete meals in this baby instead of just rice! br>br>I must admit that the directions are a little confusing; they may have used Google Translate there. I'm still trying to figure out how to use the "auto steam cleaning system" because there's nothing in the manual or online about it, but I'm in love with it and have been recommending it to all of my friends.

Small families will love it
5/5

My Korean wife and I both miss having good rice at home. This is ideal for a small family, as it can accommodate up to four people. 6 bowls cooked rice, depending on how much you eat. If you don't need it, having a larger one can be inconvenient. It doesn't appear to be as high-end as some of the more expensive models (my mother would not approve of it in her kitchen), but it serves its purpose well. It's not a pressure cooker, but it cooks the rice all the way through without drying it out and maintains the texture of the rice. It can also be used to cook other grains or beans.

So cute
4/5

It's absolutely adorable. When I first brought this rice cooker home, my wife said to me: )br>I use a Zojirushi rice cooker with a capacity of 10 cups. If we left it in warm mode over night, it started acting up and made my rice go bad. As a result, we decided to get a smaller rice cooker, which is how this Cuckoo 3 cup rice cooker buddy ended up in my family. So far, everything has gone perfectly. br>br> So far, we've only used it to cook 1 cup of rice, and it's turned out to be delicious. It also does a great job of keeping my rice warm. br>br>So far, I'm enjoying it. I only wish it was a little less expensive.

Brand of rice cooker from Korea!! It is the ideal size for a single person
5/5

A household of two people. I make the rice in the morning and eat it three times (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) throughout the day. I could make enough rice to last two days if I make more rice. It is compact and takes up little room. It's also easier to clean and maintain because it's smaller. I'm glad they're making a smaller version of this Korean rice cooker because Korean rice cookers keep the rice pot VERY HOT, allowing rice to stay fine in the cooker for several days without going bad! I used to have the same rice cooker, but it was a larger one, and each time I made rice, I would keep it for up to three days.
