Questions & Answers

Are the 5 star reviewers using the newer Foodsaver model? I have an older Foodsaver model. ?

Kathy, I used to have an older model of the Foodsaver and now have a newer model. Both get five stars from me. Steve

Is it possible to re-use these shopping bags?

Yes, we do have a heat-related problem. The seal bags can be used over and over again. Simply cut the existing seal, remove as much food as you require, and re-seal the bag. package in a vacuum Wipe any food or grease residue inside the bag near the seal area with a damp cloth. You can also re-enter your information. After you've washed them, seal the FoodSaver Bags. After microwaving and simmering, the bags should be reused. Please keep in mind that a bag containing raw meat should not be reused. Good luck with your seals.

Is there a seal on one side of this bag?

They are sealed on three sides, with one side open to allow the contents to be placed inside before being sealed.

Is it safe to use these in a water bath or sous vide? Can they withstand a water bath for 30 hours at 68 degrees?

They would and most likely do, but the food saver vacuum sealer won't seal anything but a spoon, so what's the point of having it if it doesn't work?

The bags are nice, but the pricing is a little strange
4/5

There are many different vacuum bags and sealing systems on the market, all claiming to keep food fresh for the longest time; however, it turns out that the most important factor is the thickness of the material used, not the machine or the bag material. When food freezes, the small amount of water on its surface condenses into tiny ice crystals that are sharp enough to pierce the plastic bag's material. If the material is too thin, the crystals penetrate quickly, creating a large number of very small holes and allowing the vacuum to escape; thick plastic, on the other hand, resists this, and the FoodSaver bags use a relatively thick material- I believe the number is three. 5 mil- when compared to other bags that are less expensive Simple. (You can get 5 mil bags, which are even better, but I don't think they'll work with the cheap sealers, and I've only seen them in commercial quantities. ) )br>br>There is one peculiarity: The price of these bags is quite unusual. The total cost of the 20-bag box is 49 dollars. Each one costs five cents. When you buy a box of 44, the price drops to $40. 9 cents. As you might expect, a larger box means a lower price, but the price jumps to 90 when you buy the 88-bag box. The 100 bag box is still 84 cents per bag at 9 cents per bag. The price per bag is 26 cents. So, if you're going to buy more than 44 bags, skip the 88 or 100 bag boxes. Rather, purchase two 44-inch televisions. boxes made of plastic bags.

The size of the bag has been changed
3/5

This is the ideal size Food Saver bag for my family of four. I cut up the meat and store it in these Quart bags. Seal with a vacuum sealer, label with a permanent marker, and place in the freezer. When I'm ready to eat, I thaw the food and don't have to do any messy prep work because I've already done it. br>br>When I first got my Food Saver from Costco, I bought a variety of sizes, but the Quart size bags proved to be the most useful, and I love them. They're built to last. br>br>UPDATE: br>br> 3/24/2021br>I was perplexed as to why I couldn't get my Quart-sized FoodSaver bags to seal. Now I understand why. 8"x11" used to be the size of these bags. I didn't realize the last two boxes I bought had been reduced to 8"x10" when I made the purchase. It's the difference of 1". Many of my meat items are unable to be sealed in my FoodSaver. When I get home from the store, I portion out my meat into 1-ounce portions. Cutting, slicing, and grinding 2 pound portions That's how much food you'll need to prepare one meal. br>br>I had no trouble sealing the 8"x11" bags on the first try last year. Now, I didn't realize FoodSaver was defrauding their customers by cutting an inch out of the bags. THAT'S why those bags with 1 1/2 to 2 lbs of meat aren't sealing, at least not on the first try, and frequently not on the second. I honestly believe FoodSaver made a mistake by doing so. br>br>We'd grown quite attached to our FoodSaver and the convenience of a vacuum-sealed bag, and that one inch can make all the difference between sealing and not sealing. Because of this, I've had to throw away some bags that had a bad vacuum and seal, and I didn't want to put the meat in the freezer that way and ruin it. Moreover, the bags appear to be of lower quality. br>br> These bags appear to be lighter in weight than the others. FoodSaver has really let me down. I now have to reduce the meat portions in my bags to get a proper seal, and because the bags appear to be of lower quality, I won't be able to use all 20 bags and will have to throw some away. The bags were thick, not flimsy, and the right size of 8" x 11" in my previous batches. br>br>As a result, I've reduced my 5-star rating to a one-star rating. That is deceptive behavior on the part of FoodSaver.

Confusion and deception are two words that come to mind when thinking of this article
3/5

This Foodsaver bag page is either out of date or inaccurate. First, they present two different types of bags, a heat sealing bag and a zip-lock bag, in the list of four options. When you consider that reviewers claim that the 90 count bags are of lower quality, there may be three types of bags. Make sure you know which one you're looking at, which one a reviewer is talking about, and which one people are answering questions about, because the product information, how the bags work, and the chances of a successful seal are all very different. I've used Foodsaver bags before, and I ordered the heat sealing bags because Foodsaver said they were 8"x11" in size, but I think Foodsaver was responding to a question about ziplock bags, because I find that the heat-sealing bags are smaller than the ziplock bags. The sealing bags are only 8x10, which is a significant difference for what I'm trying to package. I like how the bags work, but I'm dissatisfied with how this perplexing website persuaded me to purchase a bag size I wouldn't have considered otherwise.

I was let down

I ordered these bags because the following is stated in the description: Each pre- The cut bag measures 8 by 11 inches, so it's big enough to hold small items or single servings of food. The 44 count product stated that 8 x 10 was the reason for ordering the 20 count product; however, it appears that Foodsaver has reduced the size from 8 x11 to 8 x10, which makes a significant difference when vacuum sealing many items.

It is true that a company's brand makes a difference
5/5

The cooking show America's Test Kitchen, also known as Cook's Country, is one of my favorites. When it came to vacuum sealer equipment ratings, they stated that the type of bag used makes a significant difference. They found the Food Saver bags to be thicker than the other brands they tested. With the thinner ones, ice crystals can actually cause tiny holes during freezing, resulting in freezer burn over time. I once purchased a competitor's bag and did notice a difference, though not by much, or perhaps it was just my imagination. There may be a vacuum bag that is just as good, but I'd rather fight my cheap instincts and spend a little more. This product appeals to me more than the rolls offered by Food Saver. In the long run, the rolls are probably more cost effective, but I prefer the convenience of the precut bags. Also, do the math before you choose the 20 or 44 piece size; at the time I bought this, the 20 per box cost 40 cents per bag, while the 44 per box cost 45 cents per bag.

This is a brand that I adore. If only they could bring manufacturing of this product back to the United States. China is where they're made.

I like my Food Saver and the bags, but I'm not fond of the fact that they're getting smaller.
