Questions & Answers

How long would it take to make 100 snow cones if I used this as a VBS activity? Ron O. ?

This is an excellent unit for my shaved ice business. I have more expensive equipment, but this performs just as well. However, with this machine, you can make 100 12oz cones in under 20 minutes. 25 min. I've had a lot of practice and can spit them out quickly, but when the lines start to back up, I have to step it up a notch. I kept track of my time and found that I was averaging around 4-minutes per minute. 5 a min. However, it is the super soft shaved ice, not the crunchy snow cone ice, that attracts customers to my stand and keeps them away from the other stands when I set up.

I'm looking for a place to buy a blade. There isn't one in the Great North Web. ?

It is necessary for you to make direct contact with them. They will send you a PayPal invoice that you can use to order your blade.

Is there a safety shield included with this machine, as mentioned in some of the reviews?

Yes, a clear plastic shield was included with mine. In fact, without it, I wouldn't even consider using this machine. A block cracked and exploded inside, scattering chunks all over the place.

I watched a YouTube demo, but my ice didn't shave as quickly as it should have, even after I adjusted the blade. Is it possible that I used ice that had been cut down to size?

You'll generate more volume if the ice rotates over the blade has a larger surface area. For an ice mold, you'll need a bucket with a maximum diameter of 7 to 8 inches. In about 30 seconds or slightly less, I can make enough ice for two large servings by shaving very fine ice.

It's a good machine that'll do the job at home or in a small business
5/5

This is fantastic! Produces a large amount of very finely shaved ice, similar to machines that cost $5,000 or more. This machine costs ten times as much as this one. I use the plastic safety guard that came with mine, and it has saved me twice from being thumped by a large chunk of ice while learning how to use the machine and make the ice properly. I also highly recommend getting a foot switch so you can have your hands free and be able to shut the machine down simply by stepping back. You must be cautious because the machine has a razor-sharp blade and several razor-sharp spikes. Clean up is a breeze because all you have to do is dry everything off with a clean towel (just be careful of the sharp blade and spikes!). br>br>Making the ice proved to be more difficult than I had anticipated, but after some research and trial and error, I've come up with a simple but effective method. A plastic bucket made of high density polyethylene (HDPE) with interior dimensions of 7 to no more than 8 inches wide at the bottom and no more than 6 to 7 inches tall is required. Tap water will suffice; the ice should freeze from the sides and bottom up, with the top freezing last. Pour the water into the bucket to within about 1-inch of the top. 1/2 inch from the very top I cut two circular pieces of pink wall foam board to fit snugly inside the bucket's top. Place those on top of the water in the bucket, wrapped in plastic wrap so the foam does not come into contact with it. Freeze the bucket for at least 24 hours. Depending on your freezer's temperature, this could take up to 36 hours. I tried varying the freezer temperature, but it didn't seem to make a difference as long as the temperature stayed below 10 degrees F. br>br>Remove the bucket from the freezer once the ice is solidly frozen, and carefully chip the top of the ice flat and level with an ice/chocolate chipper (6 prongs with a rubber handle for grip). Brush the chips off the ice and set it aside at room temperature for about 15 minutes, or until the ice is easily removed from the bucket. Place the ice in the machine with the smooth bottom side down. br>br> If the ice is still very cold, it may remain stuck to the brass plate for a few minutes until it warms up. By evenly aligning the ice with the spike plate in the machine, you can center it. To get the spikes to bite into the ice, apply light pressure; otherwise, the machine will shake and wobble. When inserting or removing an ice block or cleaning the machine, keep the blade fully retracted for safety. br>br>Place the safety guard. To shave ice, first turn on the machine (a foot pedal is highly recommended) and then slowly adjust the blade until it just starts shaving ice; the deeper the blade goes into the ice, the finer the ice will be. With a little practice, you'll be able to get it exactly where you want it every time. You're now shaving ice to compete with the best shave ice shops in the country. When making a small amount of ice, I use a container, but for parties and get-togethers, I shave straight into flower cups. When I need to make 12 or more at a time and run an assembly line with help, I use get-togethers. Six ice cubes can be made from a single block of ice. Depending on the size of your cups, this recipe will serve 10 people. br>br>Use a good syrup. Hawaiian Shaved Ice (Mary Mac's) syrups are my favorites. Pourers that simply push into the bottle opening make controlling the syrup and getting an even pour much easier. I've discovered that melted vanilla ice cream tastes far better than sweetened condensed milk or evaporated milk when it comes to adding cream flavor to a shaved ice serving. To summarize- the- To make the melted vanilla ice cream, place a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the bottom of the cup before adding the shaved ice and syrup.

BRUDDAH, BRUDDAH, BRUDDAH, BRUDDAH, BRUDDAH, ok all- This is a SHAVED ICE machine, not a snow cone machine
5/5

I'm a Portuguese Hawaiian, and my son recently returned from a vacation to the islands. I was raving about the snow and missing it so much that I tracked down a "shaved ice" food truck near me. Ugh. They had an ice shaver, but it was far too chunky to use. Haupia, azuki beans, and no ice cream nothing. So, after doing some research, I made the decision to order this machine and take a chance. This is the genuine article. My son said I was close to Uncle Clays and Matzumotos on my maiden voyage tonight! (I undercooked my beans a little and had to use store-bought syrup because my HI syrup hadn't arrived yet. ) So, with some practice, I'll be able to dial it in! This machine, on the other hand, produces light and fluffy snow. Not chunky at all, which was my main concern: ) I got the foot pedal and am very happy with it. The snow comes out of the bottom at a good clip, and it was nice to let go of the foot pedal and shape the snow on top of the ice cream and azuki's with both hands. I am overjoyed! Thank you, Great Northern, for contributing to the success of my summer!.

Everyone loves shaved ice, and I make my own flavors at home by blending a can of peaches (in pear juice) or buying frozen juice concentrates in the frozen section of the grocery store (try lemonade, berry berry, or my favorite "lemon lime")
5/5

br>The peaches canned in syrup already contain some natural preservatives, so they keep for a week in the refrigerator. br>I'd like to try other canned fruits, such as canned cherries, dark cherries, and plums. br>Just keep an eye on the sugar content; you don't need a heavy syrup to make a great flavoring on shaved ice. br>Avoid powdered mixes. I've tried a half-dozen of them, and none of them taste good. The Hawaiian Shaved Ice brand has done exceptionally well. I haven't tried any of their "sour" versions yet.

It's not a good idea to do that! If it were possible, I wouldn't give it a single star
3/5

This machine was built on a shoestring budget. For more than three weeks, I attempted to contact the manufacturer, leaving voicemails and everything. There have been no phone calls returned. I was finally able to reach out to you via email. I was five days past the warranty period when I contacted them, and they told me they couldn't help me. I've only used the machine a few times, and the gear constantly slips off track, causing the spikes to fall hard, which is extremely dangerous! This is not something I would recommend.

LOVE IT
5/5

First and foremost, Hawaiian shaved ice is my absolute favorite!! In my area, there are only a few stores that sell them. I bought a machine for $40 that worked fine. It's a mix of shaved ice and slush from Hawaii. I went for it with this machine because it makes the perfect Hawaiian Shaved Ice. It's a lot bigger than I expected, but the joy I get from daily shaved ice outweighs the size. Mine came with a shield, which I appreciated. I also bought a foot pedal to make stopping and starting easier. I took the ice mold out of the freezer and placed it in the mold. It didn't work as well when I tried to leave the ice out for a few minutes. This purchase has made me extremely happy.

I did a lot of research on these machines and bought this one based on other reviews
4/5

It's a great ice shaver for the money with only two or three minor issues. I am very pleased with my purchase, but there are a few things to keep in mind. I've mentioned a few minor issues I had with the machine, but the bottom line is that I highly recommend this shave ice machine, which should not be operated by children for safety reasons. If you want great shave ice without spending a fortune, this is the one to get. When I recorded this video, I had made about 150 shave ice cups. I'll keep you updated if any problems arise. br>br>I also included some tips on what not to do, as well as links to where I got the rest of my supplies. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll do my best to respond.
