Questions & Answers

Would you please tell me if this is cast iron?

No, it is made of cast iron.

Is it able to fit inside a standard size fire ring when stacked, and what diameter is the distance between the legs when in use?

Having read the question, I understand what it means. For a tripod of a certain length with a certain diameter to stand upright, it must have a certain leg diameter. Bricks and metal fire rings ( a cuff made up of metal) are sold by hardware stores like Lowe's. Therefore, there is a standard size for fire pit kits that are presented on the market. That's what I was wondering as well.

In terms of the distance between the legs, is it 12 or 18 inches when the legs are extended?

Set up the tripod to adapt it to your campfire. The distance between each leg is up to you. It can be kept higher and narrower with the legs spread apart, or if you want it to be taller you can move them closer together. As I adjust the legs until it fits over my large fire pit, I place it over the fire. The legs are attached at the top, and the pot can be hung over the fire using an "S Hook" and chain. I'd attach a photo, but I don't think I can do it We recommend you search for "Google Images" images of tripods over campfires to try and find some ideas. There are 2 sizes of tripods made by Lodge, so also the taller one gives you more height and a longer distance between legs if that's what you need. They're both great - I have them in both sizes.

Can you tell me what diameter the legs are, and if the legs are hollow or solid cold-rolled steel?

There is a lot of weight in the legs and the whole thing. You can adjust the diameter no matter what shape or size you want, helping a lot when you are not on even

I needed this to help me through a difficult time
5/5

You shouldn't be concerned about the negative comments about being unsteady or insecure. It came in handy when I went camping last year. The sturdy 12-inch cast iron dutch oven hanging on it made me feel safe and secure. I'm typically rather picky, but I thought this was a sturdy and safe rack. It didn't even occur to me that we would end up in the water while we were all running around the campsite. There were 5 men and 4 boys running around it. It does matter where you choose to set up Obviously, you have to stick your legs into the ground if you want to camp in the middle of the campsite. There is no way to put this on a patio or deck safely. In case you can't tell that by looking at the picture, you probably shouldn't use a Dutch oven on top of a fire. There may be no need to build a fire at all. If you're not keen on camping, then you probably won't even want to go You can cook in your indoor kitchen at home if you choose.

I find it very useful
5/5

The construction is solid. Despite its high stability, I found it to be very easy to use. My cooking vessel is a 3 inch PVC case made of 3 inch PVC with a Webber grill/grate so I can hang the Dutch oven or grill over the fire. The product is very satisfactory. So far I have used it for one camping trip, but I believe based on the materials it will.

To make use of it properly, you need to know how to use it
5/5

We have no idea what it is yet, but it is the most useful thing we have. Cooking pioneer style and freaking out our neighbors are two of our favorite things! In case you're wondering how to use this tripod, let me take this opportunity to explain how to use it. * You may claim that this tripod's weight melts it, or that it's too small to cook with, or whatever is troubling you at this moment. It will be best to construct a fire with lots of large logs that are compact yet tall. When you see that they are burning down, be patient. A few more logs can be added to the fire and allowed to burn down into coal. Whatever swing you want - The handle of the cast iron pot or Dutch oven should just barely touch the top of the closest log. Place the cast iron pot over the coals and adjust the chain height so that the bottom is just barely lifted. Maintain a balanced tripod by keeping the pot centered on every leg of the tripod so that no leg has to bear more weight than the others. Using dry wood on top of coals may help you achieve the simmer/boil you need until you are able to achieve the simmer/boil you need in less than 15 minutes.

A sturdy tripod that is very nice
5/5

I recommend that you buy the 60-inch. My jaw dropped when I saw how well constructed this tripod and chain are. In reading other reviews, I found that some had not received the chain with their order, and I too thought I had been left out until after further inspection of the triangle box the tripod was shipped in, I discovered that my chain was enclosed in a plastic bag with a Also, I was surprised at the thickness of the chain, I think you could pull a car out of a ditch with it. pleased with the quality and functionality of said unit, and I recommend picking up the 60-inch The other reviews I read stated that the 48" were pretty short, so I went with the 60' and am very happy with my choice. In addition to the Sunnydaze wood grate, I also got a fire pit cover from the same brand. You've got a great style. We appreciate you reading this article.

A few camping trips is probably all it's going to last
3/5

I love Lodge cast iron pans, so I expected to be happy, but it's probably just going to last a single In addition, the screw threads are not coated with carbon like the main sections of each piece, so that there are better tolerances and a better fit. Since this ain't stainless steel, it had significant rust on both male and female ends after it came out of the box. The threads were not greased or oiled and were protected from physical damage in the box with little rubber end caps, but there was no desiccant in the box. There was rust on all of the ends to various degrees. Some wouldn't even fit together unless some WD40 was used to remove the rust and lubricate the parts. In my expectation, after a few warming and cooling sessions over a fire, a few rainstorms, and a few foggy mornings, they will be so stuck to the motherboard with no way to connect that they will be thrown away. In addition, I should have indicated in the description and pictures that this will not set up on hard surfaces such as pavement or hard floors. It is often necessary to force the feet into the ground or dig the legs into the ground for them to stay in place.

It is very important that you set it up correctly
5/5

This tripod has been set up incorrectly by almost everyone I've seen. You can see how to set it up if you search YouTube for "Camping tripod setup". Do not just wiggle it out a little bit to make it more It is much safer to do it this way.

An excellent tripod that can be used around a campfire
5/5

Reviewers of these tripods have been critical about their performance or described This Lodge tripod appears to be trouble free, as opposed to Lodge's other tripod, the Tall Boy, which I recently returned (a leg came off). A heavy chain is included, as well as a convenient heavy tote bag to make transportation convenient. It is easy to assemble, has no rust, and there is a heavy chain that does not rust. After setting it up, I found it to be sturdy and it easily held my cast iron seven-quart pot. As we near the end of our summer storm season, I tested it today, and it worked very well. The table never got hot, was more than tall enough for the pot I was holding, and had no trouble supporting it when it was full with It is recommended. BROAD FORMAT UPDATED The last time I used this was September 2018 and I found it It is just as good as the first time I used it, and I used it again today, February 2019. This storage bag is excellent there is no rusting (which could be a problem), it is very sturdy and the 7 quart cast iron pot will hold a good amount of soup, and it is extremely well made. It is precisely this tripod that you should get if you plan on cooking outside. Many of the others I tried did not work.

My search had led me here
5/5

It took me a long time to find this product. We have a 36" fire ring (in ground) and a bonfire almost every night during the summer, so we wanted to be able to cook over it. Finding something that would fit a 36" ring was a challenge. I am very pleased with this product! The design is extremely simple and easy to set up. Depending on your preference, you can set the legs apart as far There is plenty of room for you to have a larger fire ring on this item if you have one that is larger. I'm just not sure how far you can set them apart. Later that night, I was watching a historical TV show from the 1800s in Scotland, and I noticed that all of the people used the exact same design for cooking. In the end, we purchased a grill grate that fits over a traditional BBQ, as well as some chain and hooks to turn this product into a lean, mean BBQ machine The book is recommended.
