Like me, you were most likely sent the less expensive version. Bait and switch is a technique used by con artists. The Ball Jar Lifter I received was the less expensive version, which looks nothing like the Sure Grip Ball Jar Lifter. I returned it for a refund and will not buy from this seller in the future.
This is preferable for 5 for reasons of safety. 6”
I don't have the original packaging, but Ball jars are made in the United States, so I'm guessing the lifter is as well. It performs admirably.
I believe it is standard, but I was picking up quart, half-pint, and pint jars.

After seeing a positive review on a cooking show, I decided to purchase it. It falls short of their expectations. It appeared to have a narrower gripper when grabbing a jar, so I thought it would be a better tool than one of their older models I own. This was not the case because there is a shoulder that extends outward and collides with jars all around it. Furthermore, it does not grip the jar as tightly as the previous model, and one of my jars fell out of its grasp. With the old model, this never happened. It was a huge let down.
This was a gift for my wife, who enjoys canning throughout the summer. She went through two or three of the ones with the round plastic grips and complained that they kept falling apart; this device, on the other hand, has rubber/silicone one-piece grips. She claims that the piece grips give her a sense of security when she's handling her jars. They're a little more expensive than the others, but they'll be worth it if she continues to can food for us. I adore what she creates!.
Trying to get the short jars out, I burned my thumb on boiling water. Needless to say, I reverted to my previous one. I've never dipped my hand in boiling water, and this one is about an inch shorter than the one I've used for years. The automatic open feature is a good idea, but the lifter is too short.
I got to the point where I couldn't use the tongs that I was used to. Glass jars are flimsy, thin, and difficult to remove from boiling water. They threw me to the ground and set fire to my body - I became so disgusted that I began using food tongs, which are still incorrect, until the "sure grip" arrived, which was a game changer! You won't believe how safe they are until you pick up a heavy jar full of thick jam. Because of how simple it is, I'm surprised it hasn't been done before. If necessary, I will purchase a second one as a backup. Buy these if you want canning to be more enjoyable.
I do a lot of canning and am amazed at how much time it saves me to be able to lift jars with just one hand instead of opening the lifter. As a memento, I'll keep my old lifter:.
I bought it because of the quick shipping and the fact that I needed to make some loquat jam and my trees were ripe earlier than usual due to the unusual weather. I didn't have one of these because I'm new to canning. This one is much flimsier than I expected, and the smaller jars (due to their size being almost too small for it) and the larger jars (due to their weight) are a little difficult to grasp. In the store, I was able to locate a better one. Advantages: br>br> It has the ability to pick up jarsbr>br>Cons: br>It has a hard time grabbing jars, which isn't ideal when they're boiling hot:.
Another advantage of this canning jar lifter is that it fits snugly between jars in a full canner, making it simple to reach in and grab your jars. I've used it for about 50 jars now, and it's still as good as it was when I first got it. I bought two more, one to give to my daughter and the other to keep for myself in case I couldn't get these again.
I've tried a few different types of jar grippers. While most of the lifters performed admirably, there is a crucial moment in canning when lifting a filled jar from the boiling water - Will you be able to keep a firm grip on it so it doesn't fall back into the water or, worse, shatter on the floor? With the Ball Secure Grip Lifter, I haven't had any of the typical problems. The jar will not slip out of your grip once you've grabbed it. The gripper is well-designed, solidly constructed, and simple to use on a variety of jars, including Ball, Mason, and Weck. This tool will make your life easier if you process and can food. It is highly recommended.
