It takes me less than a minute to grind 18g on a medium grind (7 clicks from the tightest setting). The next time I use it, I'll keep track of how long it takes. br>9/18/14 EDIT: I timed it and it took me 60 seconds to consume 18g.
Yes, it appears that the brace that supports the crank axis is made of plastic. The rest of the items are made of ceramic or stainless steel. br>The Blade Base, which holds the bottom burr, is made of plastic, and it broke this week after months of use. It needs to be replaced, and I'm on the lookout for one.
This is a terrible product, and the company isn't going to back it up. (I attempted to have a defective part replaced, but they refused and demanded that I pay an additional fee for the defective part.) Good luck getting Porlex to replace any missing or defective parts of this product-- without putting you in debt. Regrettably, the entire line is a dud. Please accept my apologies on behalf of all of us who were duped by a "nice-looking" coating. (Porlex isn't one of my favorite brands.) This is a terrible brand.
I've never tried grinding that fine, but I imagine it would take a long time if it could do the job.

The new version features a new shaft design that keeps the handle firmly attached to the shaft while grinding. Instead of being shaped like a tiny pentagon, it resembles a large minus sign or a Philips screwdriver.
While it lasted, it was enjoyable. It worked fine until the porclin nut broke during routine use. When purchased from Amazon, it appears that the 7-year warranty does not apply.
I discovered coffee inside the grinder when I opened it, and some of the parts were already broken. Disappointed to the point of despair.
Hello, my name is Alex, and I have a coffee addiction. For the past two years, I've been using this little guy. I got a lot of value for my money, so I bought a second one to keep at work. br>br>There were no chips in the burrs at the time, the thing is still super easy to clean, and the updated flat crankshaft bit completely solves the problems of the previous design, never rusted, never broke, and still grinds consistently. It also fits into your flashbang pouch. br>br> br>br>Can you think of anything else?.
It's now much more sturdy, with a single large bar to which the handle attaches (see attached photo). This eliminates any wear issues that existed with the previous hex socket design. br>br>Overall, this is a high-quality grinder (ceramic burrs, all metal, no wearable plastic). The grind size consistency has left me very pleased. As you back out the bottom screw, feel for "clicks" to determine the grind size. I can fit about 23g of beans in the top, which is more than enough for the single cup of aeropress coffee I make every morning (usually 17 or 18g of beans). I like to think of the number one as a starting point. My morning meditation lasts 2 minutes while I grind the beans.
Almost every day use. During my deployment in Afghanistan in 2012, I purchased this product. Because of the unreliability of electricity, I tried to use manual products where I could, but I still wanted to enjoy a good cup of coffee. I'm still using the same grinder I bought eight years ago, and it's still going strong. I should have written this review a long time ago, but it should serve as proof of the product's quality and international travel after eight years.
Because there are two versions of this product, one with a hex shaped shaft top and the other with a blade shaped shaft top, there has been some confusion in the reviews. This listing included both products for sale. This listing also says "there is a newer version," which adds to the confusion. " was a link to a different page. There is no need to go to the "newer version. " br>br> This is for the more recent version. As you read reviews, make a note of which ones are for the older version. Don't worry, the new one will be delivered to you. Now for the review. br>br> On a daily basis, I use a Keurig to make my individual cups of coffee. I started with it, but I've moved on from it. k-packaged I've been using ground coffee in reusable k-cups since then due to the lack of quality/freshness and environmental waste. cups, resulting in a far more enjoyable brew. Finally, I wanted to switch to freshly ground whole bean coffee and experience real coffee the way it was meant to be experienced. br>br>At first, I looked for a grinder that was powered by electricity - Not those sloppy blades, but a burr grinder. The issue was that they were all far too large; It's made to make a whole pot of coffee, not just a single cup. That's just unnecessary and ineffective. br>br>Most manual grinders had mixed reviews and performance. Until I came across this PORLEX, that is. This is a fantastically written piece. The machine is well-made, and the parts are of excellent quality. It's a pleasure to use because the operation is smooth, easy, and precise. br>br>It takes a long time to grind a single k-cup. cup:
- 2/3 - 2/3 - 2/3 - 2/3 - 2/3 - 2/3 3/4 full. It takes slightly more than half, but you shouldn't use the grinder if there aren't any beans in it, so add a little more.
- For about 30 - 40 seconds, turn the handle. It takes 40 seconds to complete. While the Keurig is heating up, this is a simple task to complete.
- Fill your reusable k-cup with ground coffee. Take a cup, brew it, and enjoy it! Yes, it's a little pricey, but it's well worth it to avoid dealing with low-cost issues. grinders that are of good quality Definitely recommended for the serious, one cup at a time, k-cup, k-cup, k-cup, k-cup, k-cup, k coffee addict, take a sip.
I wasn't expecting to enjoy this small grinder as much as I did. br>I had been grinding coffee with a different Japanese brand (Hario) and loved it, but it took a long time (7 - 8 minutes). Depending on the fineness, a bowl can be ground in 10 minutes. The problem was solved by rigging the handle nut to allow me to use a cordless drill. It still takes about 5 minutes and one battery charge, but the workout is significantly reduced. In order to improve grind consistency, I also needed to purchase an aftermarket adapter. br>br>I purchased the Porlex solely for camping, assuming that its 20g capacity would be insufficient for daily use. I was surprised to discover that on fine drip (7 clicks), I could grind a bowl in just over a minute. The clicks are my favorite part of the game! It is something that I use on a regular basis. The uniformity of the grind is excellent. br>br>The construction quality is excellent. The friction mount of the handle to the grinding mechanism piqued my interest, but I was skeptical. This slipping or disengaging has never been an issue for me. When you add in the integral silicone band that keeps the handle in place when not in use, you've got yourself the ideal camping grinder! br>br>Please keep in mind that I make two cups of coffee every day for myself. If you need to satisfy a group of caffeine addicts on a daily basis, you should invest in a larger capacity grinder.
