I used my homemade cake goop (1 cup) to make the cupcakes. oil/1 c. 1 c. of shortening The cakes easily flopped out of the pan due to the lack of flour. I had to cover the top of the cupcake with foil because it was cooking faster than the base, and I had to bake it for a little longer (325 degrees for nearly 40 minutes). I'm not sure if it had anything to do with the carrot cake I made. It was extremely simple to put together. The rosettes were made with a cream cheese buttercream and a fondant "wrapper" around the base. I'd recommend it!.
This pan was used to make a cake for my son's birthday. It's such a cute idea, and I think it'd be perfect for a small cake. I followed the advice to bake the top and bottom separately based on the reviews. I'm glad I took the opportunity to do so. I also had no trouble getting them out of the pans. The most difficult part for me was getting the cake to bake. Unlike most people, I made my own cake batter rather than using a box mix. I'm not sure if that's why they were so difficult, but I had to cook each of them for nearly 30 minutes longer than usual, and even then it was a gamble because the middle refused to cook! I had to start foiling the edges because they were becoming too hard, and I had to cut the top and bottom edges off while leveling them after baking because they were overcooked. That is my only criticism. Overall, it makes a cute cake, but it took far too long to bake and was unevenly baked.
It does exactly what it's supposed to do! Don't forget to read the instructions before you begin! A couple of tips: 1 1/2 boxes of mix will fill both sides to 2/3 capacity and will yield enough batter for 12 regular-size cupcakes. Also, when frosting, I found it easier to completely frost the bottom half before adding the top half and frosting it. br>br>I'm really looking forward to seeing my daughter smash this on her first birthday tomorrow!.
I couldn't get the bottom cake to bake all the way through after several attempts (4). It's possible that if the pan had come with instructions, measurements, and bake times, I could have saved myself a few tries. I baked both the top and bottom of the cake at the same time. I baked them separately after finding instructions for a similar pan on the internet. I used an exact measuring cup to make the batter. I took my time baking. I used a smaller amount of batter than the recipe called for. For the final 15 minutes of cooking, I covered the bottom of the pan with foil. The top was perfect, but the bottom was a disaster, so I dug out the wet cake and iced it to serve it. Although I am not a professional baker, I have 30 years of experience as a successful home baker. There must be a better brand out there. It's possible that Wilton would have been a better option.
I guess I didn't grease it well enough the first time, because the top piece broke off and fell into the pan, necessitating a second baking. Also, before you remove it, make sure it's completely COOL.
It's an odd mold, to say the least. The cake does not finish cooking. As a result, it'll be overcooked on the outside and raw on the inside. It also doesn't end up looking like a cupcake, but rather like a mushroom with a long stem.
I love that I was able to use this for my son's smash cake and was able to save a ton of money. To be honest, I loved it so much and it was so simple to use that I'm going to make all three of my children individual birthday cakes every year. That's how simple and awesome this pan is. It's a must-have for anyone who doesn't want to splurge on a smash cake.
The only reason I didn't give this product five stars was because there were no instructions included. Maybe I'm not being fair, but after reading other reviews, it became clear that I wasn't the only one who didn't know what to do. Regardless, I followed the Wilton website's instructions and everything turned out perfectly. Overall, I was satisfied with this product because my giant cupcake was a hit.
