Questions & Answers
Wicks come in a variety of widths. To figure out the size of your lamp, you'll need to measure the opening through which the wick will pass. Your lamp should work if you get the right width and oil it. My hurricane lamp is more than 15 years old as well.
A lamp wick's thickness should be normal. It's similar to a flat nylon line or rope in appearance. It's what I use in my oil lamps, and after they've been soaked, they're great.

Selected User Reviews For Oil Lamp Mate 7/8" Inch Flat Cotton Oil Lantern or Oil Lamp Wick with Purple Stitch. 6 Foot Roll
I have a couple of antique oil lamps, one of which was missing a wick. I measured the opening and determined that a 7/8th inch wick was required, so I ordered it. The wick arrived on time and in good condition. I cut an 8-inch length from the roll and inserted the wick into the lamp, along with some freshly purchased lamp oil. The wick was a perfect match for the candle. I then waited for the oil to reach the top of the wick, which took about 15 minutes. The decisive moment has arrived. BINGO - I lit the wick with a happy match. I could see clearly. I left it running for about 30 minutes to ensure that everything was in working order and that the lamp was dependable. To be honest, I liked fiddling with the lamp and watching the flickering light in the dark, but that doesn't sound as analytical as checking for reliability. This isn't my only source of light in the event of a blackout, but it's the most entertaining. Do not be hesitant. Purchase it and bask in the warmth of a flickering flame, just as your grandparents and great grandparents did.
With this product, everything appears to be in working order. I'm not sure how long it will last because I've only used it a few times. Just make certain you get the right size. Most wicks can't be cut down because they shred and get tangled in the process. In the height-adjustable position. br>Tip: if you're looking for a unique way to express yourself, use the Make sure your wick is long enough to have several inches curled when you cut it. in the bowels of your gas tank This allows the wick to stay saturated for a longer period of time. For a more pleasant burn, use this method. You also get to use all of the fuel in the tank.
The wick channels on original and repro Eagle 2 burners are usually exactly 1 inch wide, but many of the originals have deformed to less than 1 inch and squeeze the wick, causing it to bunch up and refuse to feed when the feed wheel is turned. This problem can be solved by purchasing a wick that is slightly smaller. I also find that I don't have to trim the wicks as often as I do with other wicks. I look at all of my lamps for the central dark stripe to see which ones have Lamp Mate wicks. They don't appear to require as much attention as other animals. I don't know how long a roll will last, but it has to be longer than the old wicks in antique lamps or the less expensive wicks sold by lamp parts stores. So far, I've been very pleased with these wicks.
It will work, but it will take more effort because it is not as thick as the original lantern wick. However, it is not significantly better than the Light of Mine brand. Although they are both hollow tubes, this brand has more stitching in the middle than the Light of Mine brand.
Wicks range in width from 5/8 to 3/4 of an inch. Don't waste your time with this Chinese vendor.
It was exactly what I was looking for. We live in South Carolina, where many storms cause power outages. I have several oil lamps that provide adequate lighting when the power goes out, but I didn't have any spare wicks and was concerned that I wouldn't be able to find replacements. These are flawless in every way, and I can cut them to the exact length I need. Thanks.
It is a good deal. I ordered this after previously ordering a slightly narrower size, and it will last me a long time. Make sure the wick you order is wide enough to advance properly by looking at the little star wheels in your lamp base that advance the wick. br>I'm so grateful that I can order things like this and have them delivered so quickly.
That, I am confident, will not be a problem. My primary concern was the size, as I already own a standard glass oil lamp. The 7/8 wick is perfectly threaded through.
