Questions & Answers
Yes, any type of metal is required to keep mice and rats out, particularly if they believe there are foods on the other side. They will chew through wood, wires, and plastics with ease, but metals, i.e. They are unable to pass through aluminum, steel, and other similar materials. That is why we must use a metal canister with a metal lid that resembles a trash can, but in which we must store bird food for the bird feeder, or else the rats will throw a party and invite all of their friends.
A rubber sweep can be seen in the image.
Although it provides a very tight seal, I do not believe it should be used for that purpose.
I cut the wood with a hacksaw. It was very simple to accomplish.

Hubby said it was easy to cut to size with his hacksaw and to install. We haven't seen any unwanted furry friends in months because of the installation.
When our apartment complex informed us that all of the front doors in the complex would be replaced, we were overjoyed. When the new door was installed, we were reminded that the old door didn't hang quite right, and there was a large and uneven space beneath it that was carried over to the new door. We didn't want a plastic draft stopper because there have been a few rodents in the area. The new metal draft stopper fit the new door perfectly right out of the box, with a small overlap that helps cover a gap along the side of the door (we also purchased weather stripping to fill the gap along the side of the door). We've only used the adhesive strip on the back of the door stopper so far, but we've kept the screws in case the sealant fails.
I had my eye on another one that was very similar, but I wanted one with screw holes for attachment, so this one won out. It fits our 36" front door perfectly and provides a good seal at the bottom of the door. The included adhesive was extremely helpful in keeping it in place while drilling pilot holes for the screws. The metal appears to be solid, sturdy, and long-lasting, which is a good thing. This door sweep has taken the place of our old plastic one.
This was installed on my back door, and they can no longer get in, and it keeps the heat in.
Although it is a little long for my door, it effectively keeps mice out.
I needed a sweep that covered a larger area than 1. My custom garden shed has a 25-inch gap under the storm door. This was the best option for a sweep to keep the critters at bay. There are a lot of screw holes on this board, and it's quite sturdy. The rubber seal is durable and not too large for mice to chew.
Very good. It was exactly what we needed. There is a complete noise and air seal.
It's a nice addition to the door, and it's simple to put together. Although the screws could have been better, they served their purpose well. If you have a small gap in the bottom of your door and don't want to cut it, this is a great option!.
