I'm not sure what the manufacturer's restrictions are on weight. Make sure you double-check. In my opinion, as long as the stool is perfectly level in the tub/shower floor, it should be fine. It's incredibly durable, in my opinion. My height and weight are 5'1" and 160 pounds, respectively.
Unfortunately, the soap causes a horrible haze on ALL shower stools, making cleaning them a pain. Every year, I have to purchase a new one.
Although the directions stated that you didn't have to, I used teak oil.
No, but it's incredibly simple to put together.

The $160 price tag was not justified! I'm surprised at how poor the quality is here. The wood in our shower has completely rotted after only three months. I'll be in touch with Aqua Teak and Amazon to request a refund.
This shower bench is one of my favorites. It's well-made, sturdy, and well-organized. This Original Kai Corner Teak bench is perfect; it was easy to assemble and has leveling rubber feet, which is essential as shower floors all slope for drainage. br>I took the advice of a reviewer of a different bench that I was looking at, with no second shelf, and got this one instead because they said the other one was flimsy and fell apart after a while. Don't hesitate - just do it. You've found it.
This is a 2011 purchase that I adore. It has spent the entire time in the shower, and a few weeks ago, one of the corner pieces began to separate, and a few of the top slats began to fall out of place. I emailed Aqua Teak to see if they could help me with repairs or if they did them themselves. They replied, "Send it back to us and we'll send you a replacement. " The old one was returned, and the new one was delivered just now. It's a fantastic bench in and of itself, but the CUSTOMER SERVICE TAKES IT TO A WHOLE NEW LEVEL! I strongly advise you to purchase from them.
This is what I'm doing right now in the shower. It's been about 6 months since we got it. It's still going strong, and the Teak is of excellent quality. br>br>When we first got it, I was rinsing it after each shower (I just pick it up and hold it under the shower). My wife had been scrubbing it with soap. After only a week, that soap had faded/spotted the finish. I scrubbed it clean, dried it, and returned it to my store. I treated it with "Bar Keepers Friend" and then a fresh coat of Teak Oil. The completed appearance reappeared. br>br>At first, I left a razor on the stool, which left a black stain that was impossible to remove. On Teak, be cautious of metal objects. br>br>For a 4' x 5' shower, this stool appears to be a good size. You can make it more stable by adjusting the feet. br>br>Putting this together was not difficult for me. I didn't tighten any of the bolts until they were all in place. Update after 1. ============================================================================================================== 5 years: br>This bench seat is in excellent condition. Every four years, I'd say. After 5 months, I take it down to my basement shop and clean off the soap scum, inspect the nuts and bolts (which always appear to be in good condition). tight, no rust) and then re-install it. oil it. br>br>Each time I take a shower, I make sure to rinse the soap off of it. Without that, I believe the soap would extract the oil much more quickly, necessitating monthly shop visits. I simply pick it up and run the top and bottom shelves under the water to rinse it in the shower. br>Then there was the flaw that would have lowered my rating to two stars: br>The holes in the top shelf were pre-drilled during assembly. I couldn't even get my washer on the bolt, let alone the nut, because it was drilled so close to the shelf's edge. So I took my chisel and carefully removed enough wood (on the inside of the shelf, so it wouldn't be visible) until I could use needle-nose pliers to finish the job. To get the nut on the bolt, I used nose pliers; it took me about half an hour for something that should have taken me two minutes, but the piece is now working in the shower. br>So, why the five stars? I did call the AquaTeak customer service number listed in the box to inform them of the situation. They handled the situation gracefully and were willing to work with me to ensure my satisfaction. They even called me back to get the box's batch number so they could double-check that the other products were fine, and as a result, I am extremely pleased with the experience and the final product. I am gladly awarding the full 5 stars to the following product: The teak corner shelves in my shower are lovely, practical, and stylish. For the past two months, the assembled unit has been in our shower. My wife requested that I remove the bench today because the top surface was covered in mold. I agreed that it was a white mold and took the bench off the table. When I did, I noticed that the gray tiled shower floor beneath the bench had been stained brown. I haven't tried to clean the floor yet, so I'm not sure if it'll stay that way. We are not in the humid part of the year here in Northern Indiana (installed April-June), so I'm not sure why mold would form. The unit, however, will be discarded (probably in May).
The bench is particularly appealing. The size is just right, and the construction is excellent. Before putting the bench in the shower, I protected it with teak oil. My only suggestion for improvement is to make the leg cushion protectors wider so that the bench does not wobble when a foot is placed on it. br>September 1, 2017br>I was so disappointed to discover that my tile floor had been stained by the bench. I've had it for four months and don't think this should be happening for the price. I used teak oil to prepare it, but I'm not pleased with the result.
