Neither I nor anyone else calibrated the device. A humidifier is used in my kid's room, and I wanted to make sure that it is effective enough. I therefore find that having that meter show humidity changes to be plenty satisfactory.
Dear Adrian, I think you want to keep the temperature at 70 degrees. Use a humidor for this purpose. Check your seal to make sure it is good. Wishing you the best of luck
It would seem to depend on how big the hole is in your humidor. Using the hygrometer with the rubber ring on is a great option if it fits snugly into the hole. it is not, it should not be used.
However, based on my experience with these, I would suggest purchasing a unit that is made to higher standards for accurate very well for small jobs, but it is easily thrown off by wear and tear or simply by being made wrong (2 out of 5 were incorrect).

I doubt you'll get a nice one, but perhaps you'll get lucky. Firstly, the hygrometer pictured is not the one you're looking at. Even though it is nice to have Amazon keep things as cheap as possible, I am really tired of buying items that AREN'T what they appear to be. There is a way to calibrate this thing, I suppose. Although more accurate, it does not mean the actual relative humidity will be higher. The first time I calibrated it to salt water, it seemed fine, but later when I was using it, it seemed off. My guitar case needs something like this. It fits nicely in the space on the guitar where the neck meets the body. Besides the $3 calibration kit, I also purchased the $3 calibration kit from Amazon. It was 77- when it was left in the bag for 36 hours As opposed to 75 percent, it should be 78%. There should be a 5% error according to the calibration bag. Then I removed the bag from the box, turned the adjustment screw to lower the percentage by 2%, and put the box back in the box for another 36 hours. After a few hours, the percentage was 75%, and stayed there for the remaining time in the box. Additionally, I have a digital hygrometer/temperature gauge, which I set next to it, and they both agreed within a degree of each other. This is certainly enough accurate for the purpose I had in mind. The price is fantastic. I highly recommend it. What I bought as a calibration kit is shown below.
The calibration I performed using the salt method was way off (around 50 percent instead of 75 percent) when I first bought it. I was pleased with the product, then the humidor lid fell off after a month. I was going to continue using the product until I found that the hygrometer had fallen off of the place where it was mounted. During the weekend, I loosed the metal disk that was located on the back of the hygrometer and was holding it to the magnet mount (so I fixed it to the lid of the humidor). My attempt to secure it again resulted in the shattering of the front glass of the hygrometer when I tried pressing it back onto the rear. This item would be fine if the magnet wasn't so easily detached from the metal disk that holds it to the magnet. The idea of mounting a hygrometer inside the lid of a humidor is pretty standard, so I am not able to recommend this product for that use.
I can tell you how to do it. You will never have to replace batteries with it. I really like this hygrometer, it's a lovely device. There's nothing I'd like to complain about.
