Questions & Answers

A comparison of Howard's Conditioner and Johnson's Conditioner The differences between the two I cannot find any information about. I need to season a small block of wood. ?

Apply two coats of sealer to new wood surfaces and let each coat soak in for at least an hour to season them properly. When the surface thickness is greater than 1 Three inches of pressure on the 3-inch The fourth coat should be applied. In order for the oil to be completely absorbed by the wood, additional coats of oil are recommended. Keep wood clean with Howard Butcher Block Conditioner by applying one coat after cutting board oil. Let the wood stand for at least 20 minutes after application. If using conditioner on countertops, let it soak overnight, then wipe away excess in the morning. This conditioner protects the wood by preventing moisture from getting into it and keeping the mineral oil inside. To keep butcher blocks seasoned and ready for use, they can be frequently oiled with cutting board oil or butcher block conditioner. It is best to use both of these products together for best results, but they can be used separately

Does the oil have to be used first or can I just use the condition without using the oil separately?

My husband and I just used this product without any oil, and it has done a great job preserving our teeth. It was however recommended that we put on less coats than what we did. Compared to other preps, we thought this was better.

How long does it take for this product to create a wax buildup How has your cutting board held up over time?

That hasn't been the case. The program has been used for about two months now. You should wax the board several times to start, letting each coat dry thoroughly in between. As I have aged, I have noticed that water no longer beads up on the surface or food is leaving stains. To prevent this, I add a light coat when I notice that it no longer beading. It's really nice, though my only wish is that it could last a bit longer.

Do you have a product which could be used to create a butcher block Do I need to reapply it after it rubs off, makes my arms feel sticky, or need to rewash my hands Are you applying?

It is suitable for human consumption. Thus, if you want to use it for more aggressive purposes, you will have to reapply frequently. I like that it is light and smooth, and that it works well in my cutting board. My clothes didn't feel sticky or rubbing after it soaked in and I didn't rub into it

If you want something, be certain of what it is
5/5

It goes on waxy but does not soak in easily. Several negative posters spoke to this. According to the product, it is better to heat it before using it, and wax is present. has the nature of a sealant, so of COURSE it doesn't soak into the skin as easily as an oil does. This is my one and only product recommendation. If you have a brand new, unseasoned wooden cutting surface, especially one that is thick/cannot be moved or reversed, I recommend you buy this. You should use a plain cutting board oil, such as Howard BBB012 Cutting Board Oil, which contains only food-grade oil instead of starting with this conditioner With a little vitamin E added as a stabilizer, premium-grade mineral oil can be used for your hair. Make sure the surface is very clean and very dry. Even so, it is still recommended that you heat the oil before you use it. Make sure all surfaces are covered with a thin layer of paint and let it It is recommended that you repeat this step A first coat will soak in quickly, while a second or third coat may take up to a day to soak in. This is a slow (and maybe tedious) process which is well worth it in the end. To obtain maximum oil soaking, you need to apply as much oil as possible to the wood. Next, apply this conditioner and follow the directions carefully until the last coat or two are applied. You should begin by using this product on thin surfaces rather than thick ones, since the wax serves as a sealant. During the first couple of days, the surface of the body may be a bit oily and waxy. Keeping germs at bay is good, since it means they are kept at bay The wood grain is void of juices laden with food. Simply wipe the product well before and after it has been used. In the event that the cutting surface begins to dry or when it has actually needed to be washed, reapply only Once more, clean and dry the surface before you begin applying the paint. Check the directions again before you begin. It will need less than two coats if it is well maintained. If you prep it before use, it will need less than one coat. This is a trick I use with a separate cutting board (not a butcher block) since my wife doesn't like it right after I've treated the surface. Apply saran wrap to only one surface at a time, and only one surface at a time It will turn into an oily surface once On that side, there is a hole - Because she has been down for a few days, she has already had the chance to cut on a dry surface. Next, I flip it over and remove the wrap on a day when we'll be out of the house so I can rub it thoroughly with paper towels to remove as much of the surface oil and wax as I'll do the other side a week later wash it, thoroughly dry it, and then use conditioner and saran wrap on the part of the hair. It may seem tedious to go to this much trouble, but you'll have a beautifully seasoned wooden cutting board for years to come, not to mention that you'll be healthier too!.

I've tried it on virtually every type of wood I can think of
5/5

In 2012, I bought 2 bottles of this product to maintain my butcher block island as well as a stack of cutting boards made of different types of wood. My husband and I used about half of the second bottle on an unfinished reclaimed teak buffet we built. After turning it from a dried up, dusty looking, pale piece I wasn't sure I'd like to a deep, rich, beautiful piece I'm keeping Several of those bottles are finally in my shopping cart, I still have the island and cutting boards, and reading reviews recently, I was reminded that I need to treat my wooden spoons as well.

I love this product
5/5

It's just a matter of taking your time to apply it. In order to compare Howard's Conditioner and Mineral Oil on new butcher block counter tops, I just bought bottles of both products. My supervisor heated the Conditioner in hot water since it was very gooey and then I applied both products to a small spot on the backside of the counter and let them There was a noticeable difference in the look and feel of the Conditioner. Keep in mind that this was only one application and that I did not buff the wood, I just wiped away any excess oil. I have decided to use the Conditioner on my counter tops and applied it to all of the back side and sides of each counter top, wiped off any excess and let it air You did a great job on them. After applying the second coat in a few hours, I will follow the same steps to apply the last coat, reapplying until I have put on six When used once for the first coat, one bottle (12 oz) covers two 8' boards on both sides. When I get further into the project, I will update this post with photos and further comments, but as it stands, I think this is an excellent.

This stuff works like magic! All of the reviews are 5 stars, so you can trust them
5/5

One bottle was bought from one of those closeout stores and I used it on a bar I bought. This bar looks excellent, but clearly it came from outside the U. S. and likely spent a lot of time in a hot shipping container, where it dries out pretty fast. Therefore, I applied Howard's Conditioner all over and it worked like a charm! That's a beautiful and modern piece we can be proud to display. the wood grain has been emphasized, and the richness of the wood colors have been highlighted! The door on the left has also been completed Now you're going through the right door. On three out of four photos, it's easy to see the difference. A bright and lively contrast with a dark and moody one. The color is dull and gray. You do not need much time or skill to do this as well. Spray it on the rag and wipe out the wood grain with it. It took me no more than 30 minutes to complete this piece. It goes a long way, as I still have about 1/3 of the bottle left. The book is highly recommended!.

This is great for wood, but it also feels good on my skin
5/5

The price is a bit steep, so I alternated this with plain food - The ingredients of the product are food grade mineral oil stabilized with vitamin E, as well as beeswax and carnauba wax, all of which are good for the skin. The rough patches I was getting on my knees and elbows may or may not belong to psoriasis, two dermatologists told me. As I had heard that beeswax and olive oil are excellent home treatments for psoriasis, I applied a little Howard's with a little olive oil to my knees and elbows and - it seemed to have been a good result. There you go! Rough patches are a thing of the past. I feel like I have baby skin after using this skin care combo. In recent years, bee products have faced obstacles from multiple sources, such as pesticides and disease. Meanwhile, carnauba comes from the Brazilian rain forests, a region that is under serious threat from corporations and governments alike (and rain forests provide valuable medicines that will disappear forever). As a result, if Howard's substituted something more eco-friendly If the conditioner were friendly to the skin, that would be ideal.

I love that it gives off a nice sheen and it absorbs well
5/5

Topped a solid maple butcher lock island with this and made a hutch out of it. I love the way it looks, it absorbs into the wood and doesn't feel slimy, but the surface of my desk doesn't feel that way.
