Questions & Answers

How did this kit get its origin (country of manufacture)?

Tofu makers do not have any labels or packaging on them, and when I ordered mine a year ago it did not come in a box. There was a plastic bag with a tie around it. As such, I am not really sure where it is manufactured I checked the Soyajoy website and found no information on it. Please accept my apologies for not being able to help further.

There are two types of tofu made here Which firmness is right for you? Silky, firm, ?

There is a 1# package of nigari in the kit, which makes a textured tofu that is somewhat firm. You will notice that your soymilk becomes firmer as you add more. Experimenting with it has given me a bit of a feel for how it works. Press your tofu for a long period of time to make it firmer. Although I have yet to achieve a silky texture, I do not believe that kind of paper is pressed, or only very minimally so. There is a large brick in this kit made by the wooden mold.

Is there a way to tell me the exact dimensions of a pressing cloth?

The pressing cloth (linen) that came with mine was very useful. There is one 14" by 22" picture on it.

How does the wood stay together? It's glued together, right?

By using duck tails, the boxes are held up. As a second measure of retention, glue is applied to the duck tails. A stainless nail is used to attach the cover when a duck tail design is not feasible.

For a beginner, this set is excellent! As a novice, I am going to write this as someone who is just starting out by making tofu and what I wanted to know when I was shopping. I have never made tofu before and have no idea what to look for. You are at the right place if that's where you are at right now. This is my first tofu experience, but even though it's a bit time consuming, I feel very excited to make more with this set and feel it is a great investment that should give confidence to anyone who wants to make tofu. Will I agree, yes. There is a bit of a learning curve, right? In short, yes. If you know anything about To prepare well-crafted food that is unlike anything I have had before requires some practice, but after my third batch of tofu, I am confident that all the work will pay off and I will be able to enjoy it. The tofu that I made was not as smooth and as perfect as the tofu that you get at the store, but it tasted much, much better. I was pleasantly surprised by the tofu press, and it came with a nice bamboo (more hygienic and durable wood for water) that seems really well made for the price. It didn't come with funky cheese cloth, so perhaps it has been resolved. There is probably a reason for it being so thick, but I don't think it's unnecessary. In the nigari, the quality and reliability seem to be very high. The porch has gotten a little moist in a few places due to the humid weather, but it's not a big There's also natural sea salt in them if you have them. If you store it in an airtight container, you may see better results. BUT everything worked out - I followed the instructions on the nigari package, and several times I've enjoyed delicious homemade. I could not have asked for anything more. You need about a quart of soymilk just to fill this thing halfway with curds, which may take a while if you are a beginner. In the event I knew beforehand, I probably would have bought a small one. We were extremely impressed with the quality of the press and the way it operates. The process is simple and the box is huge.

There is no doubt that the bamboo box is better made than those on Amazon that are comparable in price. We provide you with a washable muslin cloth that is both strong and durable. There is enough nigari in this batch to make at least a ton The device claims to be capable of handling one user. The tofu weighs five pounds. Those weighting points appear to be correct, though I only made about 1/3 the first time. It takes trial and error to find a weight that is heavy enough and has the right geometry to exert even pressure. As a lead slug, I used a Solo 16 oz "red cup" filled with three pounds of lead bullets. It is unlikely that all people will choose that.
