This is something I usually get from Whole Foods in the store. This lettuce is fantastic. Tacos, salads, and sandwiches all benefit from the addition of cilantro. When romaine is recalled, we switch to lettuce at our house. br>br>However, I ordered online and was very disappointed with the quality. I don't think it was the product's fault so much as it was the store's failure to rotate stock and the picker's failure to pay attention. I'd buy it again, but this time in a store.
The butter lettuce is to die for. Aside from the excellent quality of the product, what I liked best about it was the packaging - The lettuce head is delivered in a tidy package. The lettuce head's root system has been retained by the growers, which may allow a person to water the plant. I put some of this lettuce on a bagel with turkey and swiss cheese and it was delicious. The butter lettuce is a must-try.
I've found that this is the most effective method of storing lettuce. The lettuce is fine in and of itself, but it's the fact that it's still alive, albeit a little creepy, that makes this so tasty. It keeps its crispness and freshness until the very last leaf.

It was very fresh and sweet when it arrived. I used it to make lettuce cups for spicy pulled pork, and my husband and I ate the leaves while we were cooking.
