Whole Foods needs to figure out how to handle fresh greens properly. You can't saturate lettuces with water and leave them sitting in it for hours and expect them to be edible, especially if they've been in cold storage for days or weeks. br>If you go to the store, which I do frequently, you have the option of not buying anything. When it comes to WF delivery, my experience has been mixed. not at all satisfactory It's only good 1/4 of the time, 1/2 of the time it can be partially salvaged if addressed right away, and 1/4 of the time it's just garbage. Whole Foods ought to be ashamed of themselves. br>I don't believe it's the employees' fault; they're simply doing their jobs. br>To keep their greens from drying out, Whole Foods, like most supermarkets these days, uses an automatic misting system. The goal is to spray a very light mist on the outer surface of otherwise dry lettuces on a regular basis. Just enough to prevent them from drying out and wilting, but not so much as to cause rapid deterioration, bacterial growth, and nutrient leaching. br>The issue is that they've discovered that in order to slow bacterial growth and contamination within the plastic tubing (think legionnaires disease), these automatic misting systems need to run at a high volume. br>The solution is to have better trained and attentive produce department employees, to stop overloading delicate items and leaving them unattended for long periods of time, and to reduce the flow of water in the automatic misting system, which would, of course, necessitate more frequent flushing and decontamination of the system. Yes, that's pricey, but fresh produce is in general more labor-intensive and costly than storing non-perishable cans and boxes on a shelf. It's also what draws customers in and keeps them coming back for more.
This would have been lovely, but instead I received a head of cabbage from the shopper.
I was hesitant to order produce online at first because I am very particular about what I buy at the store. I would have chosen the lettuce by hand. That is greatly appreciated! Thank you for your excellent service, and thank you to my personal shopper, whoever you were.
It was brown and slimy, and it was all brown and nasty. br>Needless to say, I won't be bothering with this Whole Foods nonsense again, especially since they didn't have three of the items I ordered out of a total of ten, wow.
It's a good thing I paid attention because I might have ended up with some unwanted toppings in my salad if I hadn't. Instead, I decided to eat a frozen burrito.
I was extremely dissatisfied with the state of my lettuce following delivery. I wanted to make a salad, but almost all of the lettuce was brown. I was able to place an order for a replacement, which should be of higher quality. I had no idea what to expect from Whole Foods!.
Organic lettuce at a reasonable price. This is something we buy frequently for lettuce cups, and it's usually quite tasty. If you aren't going to use it all at once, make sure you buy one that is very firm and wrap it tightly. Organic food at a reasonable price.
I've never seen a lettuce head this small - Approximately the size of a softball Also, the lettuce was bruised on the outside and had brown leaves. This was my FIRST and LAST time ordering lettuce from Whole Foods on Amazon.
