I'm not sure what you're looking for in packaged pickles, IRT Alkaline.
There isn't a recipe, and there's no nutritional information.
No, it's just pickle juice, and you don't need to keep it refrigerated once you've opened it. These are excellent pickles.
Selected User Reviews For Van Holten's - Pickle-In-A-Pouch Jumbo Dill Pickles - 12 Pack
Fresh, salty, and full of the classic, traditional flavor of dill. These are the same giant pickles I remember from old movie theater deli counters, where they were kept in a huge jar and lasted the entire movie. When you slice one, the knife snaps through the tight, firm skin, allowing the juice to flow freely. Because they are individually packaged, you can open one at a time while the others remain fresh. I recommend it for hamburgers and as a barbecue side dish. I no longer buy bottled pickled vegetables from the grocery store, and you can slice them to your desired thickness and only use what you need. Van Holten's is a fantastic restaurant. For this review, I was not compensated in any way. I'm just a grateful supporter of excellent culinary artistry.
This purchase has caused me a great deal of grief: (I thought I had tried these before, but I was thinking of a different brand. ) I like salty dill pickles, but these are salty enough to make my face pucker. 1200 mg of salt in a single pickle!! Is it true that each pouch contains five servings? Who eats only a fifth of a pickle? I really want to like these, but I'm not sure I can: (I'm tossing them in the trash. ) br>br>Eventually, I'll track down the deli pickles that remind me of my childhood. They used to be available in a jar in the deli section of a convenience store where I used to shop.
I get these at the gas station all the time, so I decided to buy a case of them. Unfortunately, purchasing them with the case did not make them any less expensive. As a result, the quality of each pickle in the case was inconsistent. Some pickles were extremely small, while others were extremely large. Some were extremely tart, while others were completely devoid of any tartness. Some were fresh, while others tasted as if they had been sitting in storage for years. I'm not sure how the case is packaged for these. If they mix old and new, or if they don't track at all, that's a problem. However, purchasing them in bulk from Amazon was a mistake I will not repeat. I should've returned these in good faith.
However, there was one that was not sealed in the box. As a result, the package was delivered in a plastic mailbag. When I opened the bag, I discovered that the box was damp and reeked of cardboard hot pickle juice. To find the culprit, I removed them all and washed each packet. The seal on one of the packets had come undone, allowing water to leak out all over the place. So, unfortunately, I did not receive the amount I paid for, and because it was a food item, I was unable to request a return or refund. As a result, I'm in the position of having to write a review. They do, however, taste fantastic! That's exactly what I recall from my youth. Although this was an unintended consequence, I would order these again.
These were something I really wanted to like. I've been looking for jumbo dill pickles like the ones I used to get in elementary school but haven't been able to find any, so I figured I'd try this. When I first opened the package, I noticed that they weren't crisp and bent easily (which isn't what you want in a pickle). I bit into it, expecting the salty brine that other reviewers had warned about, but instead of a salty flavor, I got a "blah" flavor. Worst of all, the brine (which I normally enjoy) POURED out of it. It was necessary for me to eat it while standing over a sink. I tried to let some of the brine out, but it all poured out when I touched the pickle, leaving me with a hollow, mushy, bendy pickle. It had been a nightmare. even if it was just a single bite I will never purchase another item.
I bought one of these from my neighborhood grocery store. I was smitten. Later, I returned to get more. I had to order them from Amazon because they'd stopped selling them in this flavor. br>br>These, on the other hand, are absolutely delectable. They have a great dill flavor with just the right amount of sourness (just like the ones I used to buy from the corner store when I was a kid). These are something I would strongly suggest.
They're mushy and lack the crispness of a pickle. Because the skins are tough, biting into the pickle is difficult. Pickles are a favorite of all of my grandchildren, and I was looking forward to putting these in their Christmas stockings. I'm getting rid of the one I started, and the other 11 will follow suit. Pickle relish is impossible to make with them. Make sure you don't throw your money away.
Up in Alaska, I placed an order for a case for the Pregnant Princess. They arrived just as she was about to pass out due to a lack of Van Holten's (which are sold on the shelf down here). They were brined to perfection, crispy, crunchy, and well-seasoned when they arrived. For a while, she was able to keep up with the pack of six - It's so convenient to have some on hand in case of a craving. Some of the other reviews mentioned saltiness, but that must be a personal preference because these were deemed perfect!.
