This has a strange flavor to it. I was delighted to discover a large quantity without pits, but these do not taste like olives in the least, nor do they have any of the buttery castelvetrano goodness. I'd rather get them flavored like pits. I'm looking forward to the return of Whole Foods' olive bar. I've never had a better grilled Castelvetrano! (Even better than the pits at other stores). They are more costly, but now I understand why!.
The quality is poor. Olives that are very small. There were a lot of mushy olives.
I bought these because I needed pitted castelvetrano olives for cocktail olives, and it's nearly impossible to find pitted castelvetrano olives that aren't stuffed with junk. garlic, nut, and pimientos not good. However, because they are not firm but rather soft, they must be handled with caution when skewering and do not have a slight crisp to the mouthfeel. I should've bought one jar instead of two!.
The flavor wasn't quite as good as the same olives without the pit, which tasted like they'd been sitting in a hot room, if that makes sense. From now on, I'll only buy things at the store.
That may not be such a bad thing after all.
These arrived in a timely manner. I made tapenade out of some of it, and we're snacking on the rest. Olives that are bright green and whole, with no broken pieces. It's delicious. It's just as good as the olive bar at the organic supermarket. Although it is expensive, I would purchase it again.
These olives are firm and mild in flavor, with only a small amount of salt, and I would buy them again if the price was right. These olives are a bit larger than the ones I usually buy.
One was a bright green, as is typical of Castelvetrano olives, and the other was a dull green, as shown. Surprisingly, the drab green jar I assumed was older had the earliest expiration date, indicating that it had been manufactured more recently. Even stranger, the drab green ones tasted the best. The olives were crunchier in both cases. However, I will not reorder these because the color and flavor variations between jars irritate me.
